how much should i pay for a 92 RS w/wrecked front end

ok my friend wrecked his 92 RS w/ v6 and 5sp. it looks like it needs a nose, 2 fenders and hood. plus the core support is all bent forward. i already have the parts on a 85 z i have. the car has got all new 15in tires and 4th gen seats, and two sets of t-tops. i want this car bad and my friend doesnt really know what its worth. i already offered him 300 dollars but he said he doesnt know till he talks to someone else. the car doesnt run after the wreck. how much is this car worth wrecked? should i part it or sell fix, or sell with the parts to fix? thanks

Even after being repaired the right way (read $$$) it'll still be a car thats been totalled... and a V6... with 15" wheels... No offense but when you can buy good used V6 thirdgens for $2000 or less in better condition then totalled, why buy one thats trashed? Hell you can buy a mint V6 for $4000. or for $4500 you can start looking at L98's. Local salvage yard has a 92 RS hit hard in front, L03 auto with 89000 miles and they're asking $2000, but at least it still runs, has 16" wheels, etc. Chances are it'll never sell, the last several rebuildable RS's ended up in the yard.

well then it could still be a good deal to part out then right? i mean the 4th gen seats? $200, rims and tires $200, the t-tops $50, 3.1 motor $250, 5 sp $150. thats 950 bucks, plus doors, hatch, gfx, etc. i mean if i can get this under 500 bucks i think i can atleast make money.

Don't count on being able to sell a 3.1... There just isn't any demand for them. Unless you find someone with a blown up 3.1 in thier car. The tranny has its possibilities, either to a auto v6'er or as 5spd swap parts for someone that has a V8 700R and just needs allt he misc junk. Driveshaft is going to be typical steel junk, rear differential will be a pegleg 3:42 rear. Body parts if you can sell em locally or find people willing to pay shipping... hatch will have to be a local sale and you may end up with it propped up in your garage for several months. GFX if the front pieces are shot thats unfortunate cause they're the pieces people want. The rest would probably still sell eventually, but the price wouldn't be all that great.

My opinion having sold thirdgen parts in the past is that in general, thirdgen owners don't have money, or the desire to buy any parts unless they're going to make it look tacky (somehow desirable), they're super cheap, or they might make it faster. And even then the price has to be low to sell. You can tear this car down and spend the next 3 years selling the parts, or you can take $500 and buy choice pieces from a salvage yard and sell them at a profit. *shrugs* it would be fun to part it if you enjoy working on cars, and you MIGHT make some money. But in my experiance its more hassle then its worth and the ends will never cover any significant bills or expenses. Just fully consider what you're getting into, check into what it'll cost to have the hulk hauled off when you're finished, look at ebay and see what prices these parts end up selling for, etc...

I agree with drew. It probably won't be worth the hassle to try to sell the parts that are still usable. Unless you get the car for $200, don't bother. I wouldn't give him a dime more considering I got my 84 trans am for $400 with a running L-69 and a working 700-R4. These cars just aren't commanding good prices anymore from person to person sales.
