New 1:18 iroc from sunstar!
So this was announced earlier this year and finally got my hands on one.unfortunatley it leaves a lot to be desired and it looks like they just tweaked the 1984 z28 mold.the engine is incorrect also, but looks pretty good sitting on a shelf or a desk a couple feet away.i got the white one and plane to get the red one to swap the red interior to be closer to my real iroc.then I plan to try to swap a tpi from a gta or corvette.ive always wanted this in owning third gens over 10 years, and even with its flaws it makes me happy seeing this in my collection.

Where did you buy it from? Aren't they running about $90?

They are semi local to me so I support them as best I can,I got it $70 shipped.which I think is slightly over priced but I always wanted a 1:18 iroc.

I thought engine was correct? But transmission is incorrect. Already plotting about putting the L69 in my 82 model. But should probably finish my real car first.

It's too bad that Sunstar didn't put more design time in the front bumper cover. They obviously reused the '82 front end with minor tweaks and the rear bumper cover/taillight section looks hideous. It's so obvious, it looks horrible. It also looks like they just remolded the wheels, but kept the tire size the same. It's the attention to details that they should work on. The mismatch of parts is a no sale for me!

Good for less than $80? When Sunstar came out with the '82 Z28, they sold that model for $19.95-$22.95. Some of the collector detailed diecasts were in the $75-$150 range. If this low quality is now marked as acceptable for the $80 and up market, I can understand why 1:18 scale models aren't being collected much anymore!
Re: New 1:18 iroc from sunstar!
I don't have $80 total in all the cars in this pic...

The Camaros are both plastic, as is the T/A with the gold B-pillar, but they are all closer to looking right (80's graphics & mud and snow truck tires excepted) than the Sunstars... And these aren't even "collector" cars, just toys.
There are a ton of options out there for thirdgen dust collector shelf fillers, can't see $80 for something that doesn't look right.

Ok. So I made a few calls today to a few diecast manufacturers. I still don't understand the marketing thought process for these companies. They stated they don't think a 3rd gen diecast would have a large enough following to invest in the molds to manufacture, but they build 1970s era police cars, George Barris Koach, 1962 Pontiac Catalina and even PT Cruisers!
I tried convincing one of the manufacturers that the IROC-Z/GTA is said to be one of the top 5 collectible cars in the coming years and that Hagerty, Grundy, Mecum and Barrett-Jackson are all showing these cars as highly collectible. One of the manufacturers did state that they are having internal discussions regarding building the 80s cars, but said they are probably still a few years out from having them available for purchase. And due to new manufacturing costs, they will not be $50 diecasts, but will be limited edition, correct models that should look great on the collector's shelf.

Well green light does have a 1:18 knight rider firebird,1:18 gta,and 1:18 turbo trans am.that I think look good, but might not be up to your standards.as for the other highly collectible pricey brands, they are just following the current collector and industry hype of hyper cars and moded super cars(i.e.:RWB,liberty walk, and rocket bunny)having mostly gone away from muscle cars except for a few brands that still do muscle cars.but it's always the same old subjects, never anything new. on top of that die cast metal manufacturing is some how now to expensive and the industry is seeing a shift to composite materials like resin or molded plastic.

M2 does the Camaro but only 1/64
M2 just did a 1970 Datsun 510 in 1/24 & that is about the biggest deal to happen.
The Sunstar 1:18 was really anticipated by myself but I haven't seen 1 in person.
Metal body cars are not going to be produced forever but the Sunstar at $80 Is getting up there for what you get
Re: New 1:18 iroc from sunstar!
I have been looking for one of these for a while now.
