I wonder if the '89-'90 1LEs get more attention than the '91-'92s?

Dennis Collins' Fox Mustangs went for between 17-40K today, plus the 10% buyers premium.

Re: 3rd gen Camaro Barrett-Jackson

Mustangs have a much wider fan base, larger market.

The way the market looks at Irocs vs 91-92 Z28s is pretty simple. "IROCZ" is synonymous with the body style. That's just the way it is. Just like every Fox Mustang is a "Five Point Oh". A GTA is twice the car as an IrocZ, but every nitwit doesn't call every Firebird a GTA, they call them "Knight Rider".

Anyone else thinking how much it'd suck to have a Z28 in the garage for two and a half decades, just to sell it... Can't feel very rewarding.

it seems like nowadays every 80's car has a wider fan base than the third gens .. ive owned , bought and sold mustangs , third gens ,vettes and grand nationals since the 90's and the third gens and the vettes are not good investments .. didnt think the mustangs were either but apparently they are getting some good coin now ..

Keep in mind that the Collins Mustang collection were mostly rare, super-duper low mile samples, some still in the dealer wrapper. Maybe in the best 1% in the country. Of course, this means that every 95,000 mile, dubiously modded LX on CL, will be have a $20K asking price by tomorrow.

Yep, and every 1991-1992 Z28 will be worth $30k overnight. Barrett-Jackson effect.

Did anyone catch the the little mistakes they made about the 91Z? Guy said the smaller 305 engine was the L69 and the 5.7 cars had the corvette TPI engine.

True. No one is as **** as me, but sometimes these cars need some exercise.

I'm shamelessly posting this again.

i would say the 1le z28 with 490 miles on it and basically still in the wrapper is a pretty good example of a new third gen as it gets .. but im not just talking about these mustangs , at the mecum auction all the 80's cars and second gen cars were doing better than us ..

Worse than that the **** poor modified "iroc" sold for more than some of the stock examples at mecum.

I don't know, the results at Mecum varied. Some 3rd gens did pretty well, other not as well.

Collins' 1LE was a primo car. However, I believe if it were an '89 or '90, 5 speed, medium blue metallic 1LE with similar miles, it would have sold for $10K more. JMHO.

Re: 3rd gen Camaro Barrett-Jackson

I had a friend check the 91 out closely. Even though it had under 500 miles, the underside of it did not look good... Lots of rust on the exposed parts and must have been stored in a damp garage... the heater box had surface rust on it, and much of the aluminum stuff under the hood like the alternator and the thermostat housing was corroded when looking at it closely. It must have been parked as a static display for some time and not loved. He thinks that if it presented itself better in person that it would have been bid higher.

Just imagine what your new acquisition would go for, once you work your magic on it, Erik!

I noticed that even some of his Mustangs weren't incredibly detailed either.

Maybe people are less excited about the folks who signed it than they were 8 years ago?

Maybe the bar tenders were overpouring last time that car came through the auction... Or everyone who thought it was cool 8 years ago, has owned it at least once already so now it's worthless.

Thanks Charlie!! I'll get it all detailed up over the next few months. Yeah he was a bit disappointed and another person looking at it at the same time was too. He planned to bid but then didn't after closer inspection.

No kidding. If that were my car, I'd be embarrassed to bring it to a local cruise night looking like that.

Maybe I should buy it.

The guy looking for the IROC (Ken) is with MASCAR Classics. They had the big display at MCACN in front of my car.

ray, I've been thinking about this and the money the Collins Mustang brought not just this last BJ, but the previous batch from last year.

How many really mint Fox Mustangs have you come across? Most of them have been beat, abused, hacked and butchered. Not too many have been pickled and left in the wrapper.

On the other hand, low mile, mint 3rd gens seem to be coming out of the woodwork every month

Re: 3rd gen Camaro Barrett-Jackson

I normally love a good thirdgen, but something about that red 1LE fails to excite... it could be the triple red. While I love a good red interior, I generally dislike red on red. And in this case, red on red on red (wheels). It is period correct, sure, but I don't think it has aged as nicely as white with white wheels or teal or purple.

I thought the Foxes sold well. His Mustangs last year sold for more but they were virtually new cars.

What I liked about most of the cars in his collection is that they are clean and preserved low mileage cars. Something I wouldn't feel bad about putting on some mileage and just enjoying it.

Re: 3rd gen Camaro Barrett-Jackson

Guys, Let’s see what happens late this year. I have decided to run my third gen through the auction in Arizona to sell it if it’s accepted in barrett’s Auction. I have a 91 Camaro Z28 5.7 with only 1,128 miles on it. But mine is a clean as it gets. Showroom condition. This should give us an idea of what the market wants to pay as of today.

What are the details on your car? What drivetrain does it have? Did you keep the original tires when the replacements went on? Any repaints?

B2L, G92, G80, UN6, MX0, N96, j65, K34

i went through the RPO codes I could remember. Has floor matts etc. don’t remember all the codes.

the car is all original and stock. Went through entire car and had dealer replace: tires, rear hatch struts, hood struts, plug wires, all fluids, new belts, charged AC, and more. I’m second owner. Car had 128 miles when I got it. Original paint. Garage kept entire life. I did not keep original tires. Didn’t know I should have. They were dry rotted.

Re: 3rd gen Camaro Barrett-Jackson

Very nice. I am guessing $30k. If it was a 92 Heritage Edition it would be $35k imo

Again just guesses from me.
