SLP Factory package - installation history

Trying to clear up a few points on SLP factory package.

Did the cars get shipped to SLP for the install in 91 and 92? Was this an option, or did dealesrhips do this exclusively?
Did the dealerships handle SLP factory package for earlier model cars? i.e. you wanted to bring your '88 into the dealership in 1991 and they would do it?
Was there specific guidelines/install instructions for the factory package so that all installations should technically be identical? or was this up to the technician doing the install.
And on last very specific question: What was done with headers/spark plug wire routing/ plug wire holders and heat shields? Did all GM factory stuff get tossed or did they use any of it for the SLP header install?

Re: SLP Factory package - installation history

The Firehawks were sent to SLP for conversion. For the SLP package upgrades, I'm pretty sure those were all done at the dealer. For a new car, installed before delivery, it would be included in the new car warranty and you could add it into the financing (if you were taking out a loan). If you wanted a dealer to add SLP parts to your 88' in 91', they would do that too.

The SLP parts came with pretty good instructions and included information and materials as to what wires/hoses needed to be rerouted/extended, so I imagine the techs pretty much followed that. It needed to be that way in order for GM to support it as an authorized upgrade. I'm sure GM corporate and the dealers didn't want the techs to have to figure out how to make it work, as it is with most aftermarket parts. For example, the SLP airbox on Firebirds required the charcoal canister to be relocated to the driver side next to the battery. The airbox kit came with wire and hose extensions and the instructions showed you how to route them.

I'm not sure about the spark plug wires with the SLP headers, but I'm sure it was addressed in the kit.

That all makes good sense. I've seen the instructions for the airbox, but never for headers or spark plug wire routing.

SLP, dealer or anyone could order/install the SLP kit or any part of that and other options they offered in catalog. Was sold buy dealer, Summit and SLP.
Firehawks (B4U option code and 5k deposit) had to be ordered through dealer or SLP.
