Insurance Appraisal
I am sure this is probably not the right board for this, but I am wondering, I have a good deal of audio equipment in my car and upgrades and such, would it be possible to get the insurance company (Allstate) to appraise the car and tell me how much they will give should anything get stolen? Does insurance even cover audio? I do have full coverage. Lemme know

My insurance company requires you to bring the car in for a visual and they take some digital pictures. That is so they can see if there is any damage beforehand, like a cracked windshield. They also look at the stereo. If it's an aftermarket unit about the same value as the original, no problem. I was once told if it was worth over $700 it should be noted in the policy. Your best bet would be to have your insurance company look it over and record what's there ane what it's worth. Of course, if it would cost more than the rest of the car is worth to replace it, you might see an increase in your premium. In any case, if it's stolen and you claim it was worth $5000, they may not believe you.

Well, I have insured my stereo before. Here is the deal: call your provider inform them you have it and then they will want copies of all receipts and to inspect/ picture the whole system. Then you have to figure out a value and what they are going to do in terms of devaluing it in the even of a loss. In my case after 1 month my alpine dvd player went from $1,200 to 400! Ouch After I was paying an add-on for the msrp of everything, and they did value not replacement. Just a heads up.

If you are serious about getting an appraisal, I'd get an independant one if I was you. Look in your phonebook under appraisal or auto/appraisal, and call a few up and see if they can appraise automotive stereo equipment. Remember, the insurance company is looking out for their bottom line, not your best interests.

This does not help you where your at, but locally there is a guy that does appraisals. H used to be an adjuster for a couple of insurance companies, now he does appraisals on the side. my point is, he is respeceted well enough that the ins company does not even argue. If they did I would take them to court & win.
My point is, ask some show car guys & see who they would recommend for your local.
