Looking to buy project car but don’t want to over pay
Been looking for a couple weeks now everyday on various sites for a running and in ok shape z28, I found this one I am interested in, but feel as though what the person is asking is a little much. I don’t want to insult the guy by coming in too low. I haven’t seen in person yet to see engine condition or a true look at the inside. Guys posting is weak and pictures suck. What other things should I be looking for that are red flags?

I'd definitely ask for more pictures. But from what I see, the car appears to be solid, and all there. Unless there's some kind of surprises, the price doesn't seem out of line at all....and I guarantee you it will sell right away for that money if it's decent at all
Re: Looking to buy project car but don’t want to over pay
It doesn't matter much if you pay in the beginning, or pay as you go, you're gonna pay to play. Pick a car you like that you can enjoy right now and in the near future as it is. If you don't like how it is now, but like the potential picture in your imagination, you may never reach that goal, making it a wasteful purchase. If you have to spend a bit more to get something you enjoy the way it is, it's still a better buy because the reward will be instant.

well said thank you. It’s hard looking day in and day out and then you find something pretty close you convince yourself it’s the one.

Something to keep in mind, assuming it has original/correct seats: unless the tear is on the side of the driver's seat, you're not going to be able have it repaired and match as no one makes the correct fabric for these cars. Plan on either recovering the seats with a different/incorrect material, or trying to replace them with a used set from another car. Non-serviceable seats would be an immediate deal breaker for me, but if you plan on doing something aftermarket with them anyway, that's your call. Also there's no mention of rust, and this car is in Michigan, so I would definitely want photos of the underside of this car, along with the engine compartment, and interior before I'd even consider looking at it in person. Keep in mind that a decent paint job usually costs $3-5,000, if it's in need of all-over paint. That's one thing I'll probably never do with my '91 RS just because it will never be within my budget.

Agreed. The lack of good quality photos is frustrating and the minimal response I get back when I did ask a couple questions was also peutting me on edge. He said he took the car in on trade and judging from his Facebook profile looks like he flips a lot of these cars. I think I’ll probably pass on this one.

Here you go Duke. This guy is member here and this looks to be a solid project car from someone who seems to be straight up with any issues.
