History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
Since purchasing my "somewhat" lower mile Formula at 68,958 miles, it's always had this little tag on the proportioning valve behind the rubber cap. I've never seen one one of these on any thirdgen I've owned, so one day while bored, I started looking at engine bay pics on this site and couldn't find another one. Also, I combed the recent March COTM voting thread and none of those super low mile cars have this. So, is this original and if so, how did it survive on my now 70,000 mile Formula but not survive on cars with less than 10,000 miles? Even the super low mile cars I've looked at so far on here don't seem to have it. Wondering if it is one of those type of tags that would normally be removed before the part was installed.
I carefully removed it along with the cap for some photos. It's just a little laminated piece of paper with the letters M and B and a barcode. It also has relief cuts around it and it's starting to deteriorate on the back some. Anyway, if you have this let me know. Just curious.

Some of them are on the back of the valve, so they don't show up in photos, but they all had them. Can't remember which of my cars it was, but I was cleaning one of them in the last year or so and found what was left of the tag between the wheel well and the firewall. They're one of those things that like to get blown off by power washers and steam cleaners, kind of like all the little paper tags with part numbers on all the vacuum hoses.
I went through the trouble to make replicas in Photoshop for all my cars that are missing the original tags. Just need to print them on card stock and laminate them. The files have been saved on my hard drive since that thread, I just haven't made it a priority to actually finish making them.
The more you know! Good info! Had no idea, thanks! Today, while cleaning the 82, I decided to look behind the valve and sure enough it's still on my 82.lol Can't believe I've never noticed it all of these years. It's pretty crusty and I can just make out the letter H on that one using a mirror, but can't make out anything else. Well now I know! Thought it was an odd thing since I never saw one before, but since some were on the back, that explains that!

"prop valve" I didn't try that when I searched first. I used proportioning valve label or tag, brake label or tag, and some others and couldn't find anything. That one didn't occur to me. Thanks!
