Lots of modified cars through the auction it seems.

This one lists a 350 as the engine. That would not have been factory or correct as it was not available on the 1991/1992 Firebird convertible.

Don’t you know that this car was built for a GM executive and driven out the back door of the plant before anyone noticed. It is one of one and the rarest of the rare. Joking of course…….but how many times do we hear such a story 🤣

Original interior, my a$$ -- it's pretty obvious that those are aftermarket vinyl seat covers.

Re: 91TA convertible unknown miles goes for $9,900 at Mecum Kissimmee

The production number is also incorrect. It says "555" for 1991-1992 Convertibles. The 555 is correct for 1991 US production but there were also some Canadian cars built as well. So the correct total for 1991 Trans Am Convertibles should be 637 and can be identified with the 6th VIN Code digit 3. Then add to that the 1992 production of 777 US.and Canadian units for a total of 1414 Trans Am's produced over the 2 year period. There were also 2314 base Firebird configurations made over the same time period with the same VIN code 3 in the 6th position. The data source is Pontiac Customer Assistance Center and Pontiac Historic Services. There were also a few cars produced as after market models that can be identified by a 2 in the VIN. These were owner or dealer cars submitted for modification and not part of the official totals as built by Pontiac. Hope this helps clarify.

Pretty sure my opinion isn't popular but I'm gonna say it anyway... I can't stand convertibles (all convertibles, not just third gens), they look corny and I have no desire to drive around in a tent. I wouldn't take that car if they were giving it away. That said I agree that is a fair to slightly generous price.

Hopefully you feel better now that you have that off your chest.

Is the engine bay color correct? or was this car repainted?

It is not. It's possible the car was undercoated. I've seen some with undercoat that is applied to some spots of the engine bay but I would also expect to see it on the strut towers, too, which it is not in this case.

This having black on on the tray in front of the radiator, and the support, would almost seem like it may have replacement parts.

I don't think many vert owners drive with the top up so the tent you mentioned isn't a concern

Re: 91TA convertible unknown miles goes for $9,900 at Mecum Kissimmee

1) The birds on the fenders are wrong
2) The seat covers are not original
3) It appears there is an electrical issue with the Alternator, notice the red wire which appears to be going directly to the Battery... do not remember that as being stock.
4) The black painted parts in the front tell me something is amiss, what that is, I am not sure, but that area should be white. Why is it undercoated there, but not under the hood?
5) Battery looks crooked in the battery tray, might be missing the bolt and wedge tie down
6) The "Trans Am" sticker on the rear deck lid, I believe that belongs on the rear bumper.

Based on what I have seen, the price is about right for the market right now... All of those things can be corrected with a little work.

John

Seats are the AQ9 variety, same as the GTA's. They came stock on the TA's in 91. Can't tell if they are leather or vinyl but the pattern is correct. Since it was repainted though. I can understand why the decals are not positioned correctly and some of the engine bay items are the wrong color.

Re: 91TA convertible unknown miles goes for $9,900 at Mecum Kissimmee

That car was flipped on 3/22/22 on BAT and brought $11,000.00....which was more than it should have brought in my opinion. Also, these dealers need to stop screwing up the "deals" out there for the regular Joe.....so the dealer bought it for $9,900 at Mechum, has shipping costs, buyer's fees and then flips it on BAT for $11,000 and pays fees and costs again for what? A $300 profit from a $10K investment? How about the dealers/flippers just back off and let the car sell to an end user? I know, I'm whining.
