History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
Hi
I'm new to the forum.
I have a 1988 iroc I just bought for $900 off Facebook marketplace missing most of the interior but otherwise complete running driving car.
The center console is gone so I can't look up the rpo codes on the sticker.
My production date sticker in the door says 3/88
My question is does anyone know back then generally what month the new production year would start?
My door trim panels are the 1988 upholstery pattern but the front passenger seat is the 1987 upholstery pattern.
I was just curious if it was maybe a early production supply issue depending on the month or if I just have the wrong year seat.
Interior is the tan color and the seat is the darker brown leather 87 style.
Thanks
Model year changeover is generally around early-mid July for all mfrs, car lines, factories, etc. New models need to be in the stealership showroom Labor Day weekend. Not as hard and fast a deadline now as it was then; back then, people would have gotten promoted to their Peter Principle level for missing it.
3/88 would be late 88 production.
Sounds like the seats got swapped somewhere along the line. Not too different from my 83 with 96 or so seats in it.

Ok thanks.
That's what I was thinking. I bought a 2003 Silverado new in June of 03 that was built May of 03 and the 2004 models were already hitting the dealer lot.
Just wasn't sure if it was the same back in 1988.
I was thinking it was more likely it was the wrong year seat in it.
It looks like you got your work cut out for you. Somebody was blatant that they wanted the stickers on the front of the door, rather than the rear. The wheels are also incorrect, unless this was a base/base IROC-Z and the original wheels were painted when the rest of the car was. Lots to fix, or change, if that's what you plan to do with it.
