History / OriginalityGot a question about 1982-1992 Camaro or Firebird history? Have a question about original parts, options, RPO codes, when something was available, or how to document your car? Those questions, answers, and much more!
John Zofko (Okfoz), keeper of ASC Convertible production data, and regular contributor on this forum, has done it again. He was able to get his hands on the PMD Option Analysis by Selected UPC Usage production reports for the 1987, 1991, and 1992 Firebird models. He was kind enough to forward that data to me to see if I could slide this data into my book. Without a problem, I was able to update my book.
Some of you might know that, in 2018, when my book was first published, the existence of PMD’s 1987 Option Analysis by Selected UPC Usage production report was not known. Only the 1987 Options and Accessories production report was available – a report with minimal production breakout and no exterior paint production totals.
The newly discovered 1987 report does not include Canadian and Japanese delivery data (only USA domestic production), and the RPO totals for Firebird-Formula are grouped together, as are the RPO totals for TA-GTA. Nevertheless, my book now has the new data. Further, the production amount for the very rare 1987 GTA RPO DD9 Power Paddle mirrors has been updated and indicated on page 62.
Additionally, the 1991 and 1992 reports did align with the data that was in the old book, but those old figures were missing much of the breakout totals. The new reports have provided much of the missing production data. Consequently, I was able to make major updates to the 1991 and 1992 model year pages.
The new data is a tremendous addition to our 1987, 1991, and 1992 knowledge. Thanks, John!
Moreover, I have cleaned up the presentation of totals on almost all pages and, in the Discussion Section, I added three special-edition pages: The 1982-1984 Trans Am Recaro Editions (RPO Y84), the 1983 Trans Am Daytona Speedway 25th Anniversary Pace Car (RPO Y82), and the 1984 Trans Am 15th Anniversary Limited Edition (also RPO Y82).
Pages 136 and 164 have new information: RPO Rxx Control Code definitions and totals for 1991 and 1992.
The appendix color totals on pages 194 thru 196 have been updated as much as possible.
The good news is that if you purchased one of these books over the last seven weeks, you already have the updated book – I published the update around Christmas.
Re: 1987, ’91 & ‘92 Prod'n Reports Found by Okfoz!
Excellent news! Thank you to John and Robert for all of your hard work in putting this together. I'll have to add an updated version of this to my wish list!
