Going through the all 1982 to 1992 Pontiac, Firebird colors codes and qualities book authored by Robert Casey. I noticed that there is no mention of the DD9 paddle mirrors. I was hoping to find how many were actually produced. I own a 1987 GTA gray car with that option and the RPO code is in the console. I would hope the author of the book can correct the omissions in the RPO listings in the GTA section. The publication makes no mention of those mirrors at all.

 

For many of those years, I don't think true number will ever exist unless GM finds and releases a bunch of data.

I have a database of VINs and RPOs, although it too is incomplete. No US 88/89 cars, well these are total VIN count by year that I have a Pontiac with DD9 in:

Counts of Pontiacs I have that actually have DD9:

I hope that gives you an idea. Looks like your car is uncommon for sure.
