Info On 1982 Firebird S/e

Hey,

I'm looking for information on a 1982 firebird S/E. How many were made? Anything done to it that's really special as opposed to a regular firebird?

The S/E was kinda like the Berlinetta... Intended to be a luxury package, rahter than sporty or cheap. None of the options are really noteworthy.

1982 FIREBIRD S/E

What about engine or transmission type? Anything significant worth mentioning? What about the distinct looking factory exhaust system on the S/E?

A typical Firebird SE is different than a Firebird in the following ways:

tinted taillights (same as trans am)
Full instrumentation
rear wiper
wheels
badging
various interior options (seats, steering wheel, etc)
the only drivetrain option of note was a HO 2.8 V6. Otherwise it was the same as the Firebird.

there was no HO V6 in 1982. Default engine was a 2.8 V6 2-barrel, optional was a credit-delete Iron Duke tbi, and also optional was the 305 V8 LG4 4bbl shown above.

83 and 84: same exact deal, except now there was also an optional 2.8 V6 HO 2bbl which no other model could have; only the Firebird S/E could have it, and it was optional, not standard. Engine code LL1, VIN engine code L. HP rating of 125HP as opposed to the regular 2.8 V6 of 107 HP.

The engines *not* available on S/E were the top-dog V8's, i.e. the LU5 and the L69.

85-86 - dunno, but I'm guessing 2.8 V6 MPFI by default, and once again a credit-delete Duker or optional LG4. No TPI availabilty.

All this info relates to the Firebird S/E only. Engine choices on base Firebird are identical to above, except that the Duke 4-cyl was standard, not the V6.

What's the story on the LC8 231 c.i.d. V6? I thought the 173 c.i. 2.8L's were the only sixers....?

231 CID works out to a 3.8 liter, which never appeared in any 3rd gen, except the 89 TTA. Probably a mixup with some other 82, like the grand prix, possibly. only fbody engines in 82 were

LQ8 - 2.5L 151cid 2-barrel 4-cylinder (canada / overseas / ?)
LQ9 - 2.5L 151cid TBI 4-cylinder
LC1 - 2.8L 173cid 2-barrel V6
LG4 - 5.0L 305cid 4-barrel V8
LU5 - 5.0L 305cid crossfire V8 (excluding California)
