Firebird battery location?

Which 3rdgen Firebirds had the battery on the drivers side? For Camaros it is on the passenger side.

Thanx,ANDYZ28

I believe on the '87 up TPI cars they were all on the driver's side (I'm sure the '89 and up TPI cars have the batteries on the driver's side). The TBI cars had them on the passenger side. I don't have any idea on the V6 cars, though.

My '84 has it on the passeger side right aft of the headlight assy. That answers your question in a reverse fasion I guess... mine is a base V8 'bird.

The location varied in both the camaro and firebird based entirely on which engine was in the car. The difference was due to the air intake location most of the time. If you look both Camaro's and Firebirds have battery trays on both sides.

What Drew said.

The TPI Firebirds (85-up) have the battery on the driver side.

the V6 Firebird cars with the port FI also got the dirver side battery. The airbox was placed on the passenger side of all the TPI & V6 port FI Firebirds because they did not want to entangle the radiator hose with the air intake tubes...

I think all camaros had the passenger side battery because they did not need the hood cleaarance like the Firebirds...

makes sence when you start looking at them...

3.1 Camaro's shared the same intake ducting as the port injected Firebirds, hence they have a drivers side mounted battery. Anyone checked a TBI Firebird? I woulnd't be surprised if their battery is on the passengers side. Also I'm not sure about 2.5 and 2.8 cars... Either way it wasn't as much a difference of camaro or firebird as much as engine and design layout.

I have seen V6 camaros use the same ducting as the Camaro TPI cars. I think there all 2.8 ones that I have seen though.

The TBI firebirds all had the passenger mounted batt, just like the 4bbl cars. I had a 91 Formula with the TBI

Most of the different engines in our cars that I have seen, they seem to prefer the passenger side for the battery, the exception to this are the firebirds that have the TPI, and the v6 cars with the port fuel injection.

All the TBI, carbed cars, and the crossfire car all had the passenger side battery in both camaros & firebirds.

I have never seen a stock camaro that had the driver side battery. The ONLY camaro that I have seen with the driver side batt was the one I personally own, but someone decided to install TPI in it that came from a 87 T/A.

I am not saying they do not exist, I am saying that I have never seen it.
