Dunno how "rare" they are. But i know they are hard to find round here

I've been looking for several months now, finally ran across one and bought it

It's an 88 Formula 305 Tuned Port, 5spd, 9 bolt disc rear, T-tops black on black.

Seems to be a nice car, i pick it up on monday!

It's got some nifty stuff.... T-top covers so the light don't get in. Seems like it's got a 3.45 rear, although the rpo sheet is missing in the console. and i haven't found the others yet

all in all it's a pretty nice car

 

5 speed v-8 thirdgens are rare, and firebird formula's are rare thirdgens, so its safe to say you have a damn rare car. Nice buy. You also got the 305 TPI engine which is not only a very desirable engine next to the L98, but it was only available in '87-'88 in the formula . I also owned a 5-speed '87 formula but i got stuck with a carbed 305 engine (aka sLuG4). It was a dog

 

Not sure where you got your information, but the LB9 was available in the Formula from 1987-1992.
