87 Iroc pics/details...
For the Iroc fans... See the 91 Formula thread for all the details...
The body colored louvers were plastic, aftermarket crap. They are long gone. It had factory louvers OEM so i've gotta add them eventually. The foglights were smashed, so in some of the pics it has walmart el cheapos, now it has factory fogs. Pretty much everything is OEM, cept alternator, battery, tires, cruise, etc.
Any questions, feel free to ask. I'll have better pics this summer.

I like it. Definetly nice. I'm looking for pretty much that exact car just in Bright Red.
1 of the things I like most about the 87's is that lined interior design and the usage of the earlier shifter plate and int. design (unlike 88-92 and except for the square ****) and the earlier ext. design. If I find the IROC-Z, I'm gonna change it to the round shift ****, nicer IMO.

The oddball combination of old and new parts and options is what makes the 87 Iroc unique... Old style dash, new style shift, unique seats, Z28 + Iroc, first year L98, L98 + CC1, 3.27 posi, only L98 with serpentine belts, etc... Also its a Norwood car from the last year of Norwood production. Really when you put it all on paper its a very unique car that was only available for one year. BUT, with 40,000 Irocs sold in 87 there are quite a few that are basically the same, so its just another lemming in the herd.
Its unfortunate but there are about 4 that look just like it running around town, but they're all in much worse shape.

Those are some of the reasons I like them so much also. There might have been 38,889 IROC-Z's but only 12,105 350's were made out of all of them. Seems like alot, but by now I don't think it is common. U can't even find a 350 TPI around here. LOL, I've only seen 1 ever,
and it was a 91-92 Z28. Didn't u mean only L98 with V Belts?? Thread Starter

Actually I meant only 350 without serpentine belts... Not sure how that happened...
Finding TPI cars around here isn't exactly easy, 350's are even more uncommon... finding one with all the options you want is even harder.

Another Iroc pic... for those Iroc fans out there... Its not really at its best, I haven't cleaned the engine bay in 3 years, and the vacuum line to the brake booster is unplugged, and the distributor cap is loose, so sue me I'm just getting started on a tune up.

Looks clean. 1 thing about TPI is that it is like the best looking intake to ever be on an engine. U should move this to the Appearance board, I'm sure you'd get lots more replies/compliments there.

nah, its not clean enough to brag about, and I don't much care for the direction the appearance/detailling board has gone. It was intended to be a place to talk about taking care of the cars, and paint jobs, and such. Now all it ever has is a bunch of people posting pics of their cars and discussing their latest aftermarket part or 4th gen part... Bolting on spoilers, hoods, and foglights is not detailing. But thats just my opinion, if it doesn't bother the moderators of that board, then so be it.

It looks clean in the pictures though.
I agree, there is some off topic stuff on that board, but u do get a detailing question evey once in a while.

The weather today was pretty nice, most of the snow melted, etc... Maybe tomorrow I'll wash the car and take some better pics... Of course weather here is questionable at best, day before yesterday we had 3 inches of snow, yesterday it was warm enough all the pavement was dry...

If it belongs anywhere on thirdgen.org that would be as good as any I suppose, but its a twist of the appearance definition... I would figure that would fall more under body/interior since its modifying the body of the car.

Do you have any pictures of the door panels?? On every 87 I've seen in person with the lined interior, it wasn't like it's supposed to be and was falling.

Mine is the same way... I'm just too lazy to pull the panels and the top trim and reglue them. It only seems to be a problem on the 86-87's that got the diagonal striped interiors... if/when I get around to working on the interior, and in the event I decide I'm a masochist I'll go ahead and fix them... its just too much of a pain in the *** for something so minor.

Sorry, if you were asking how they're supposed to be... They're supposed to match the seats exactly... It looks like GM used a spray adhesive that was heat sensitive... I have yet to see an 87 Z28 or Iroc or even a V6 with the custom interior that had the stripes still present in the door panels. LOL

Yeah that stinks the stitching is there but the grooves aren't. They used messed up stuff on those door panels and then they used it on the 88-on armrests.
I just did mine a few months ago, worked pretty good too. I've never even seen what the 87 cloth custom interior door panels even looked like new.

One of the 2000 some odd Iroc websites has scans of the 1987 sales brochure... there should be pics there... I should have repaired mine when I replaced the top trim (both sides were broken) but I didn't think about it, and the only glue I had was 3M 77 with isn't heat resistent so it would have just fallen a day or two later.
I could be wrong but the door panel restoration tech artical used the striped door panels, the finished pics look pretty similar to correct except he used the wrong fabric.

Also just an update on the progress of the Iroc... the passengers side valve cover is almost clean... all the rubber AIR injection hoses are off the car and are getting detailed. The runners and plenum are being cleaned. I've got 2 wiring connectors with broken clips and a vacuum line I have to repair... I'm not sure how I'm going to clean the intake manifold, since its really covered in oil and I'm not sure I wanna pull the fuel rail. I'll probably end up pulling the fuel rail and polishing them and cleaning up the injectors, etc... Gotta love it.

Cool I just saw the Tech Article. I didn't even think about it, but I have seen it before. Yeah it should look like the seats, looks good too. You gonna do all that??
I think I missed something on the interior door panel subject. Is teher a problem with mine. They look wavy instead of smooth. I just bought the inside window felt/black plastic upper door panels. Should I reglue the panel when I have it off the car?

No, u have leather not the cloth, I don't think it affects you.
Do they still look good or is the picture not showing something??

Someday I'll get around to regluing the door fabric so it looks right, I'm just not in much of a hurry... I've gotta get a hole in the drivers seat patched up too, one of the springs in the side bolster broke and poked thru. Whoever owned the car at the time, just ignored it and let it shred a 1/2" hole thru the cover on each side of the piping. The first time it poked thru he could have cut it off with a pair of side cutters and it would have been fine. The first time I shed blood on the damn thing I took care of the spring, but still the hole remains.
Oh well, right now I'm trying to get the runners shiny and clean... and the TB... I've still gotta pull the fuel rails and polish em up... and the intake manifold and drivers side valve cover... then I'm putting it back together.

That stinks that a low mileage car wasn't treated correctly, I just looked at an 87 IROC-Z that was like that, more so though. How much did you pay for that car?? (I know it varies in certain areas)

At the time a 305TPI or carbed Iroc would run $6-9000 and was trashed, so we got a good deal on it... but shortly after the fbody market took a dive, the same car now probably is worth about $4000-5000...
If you look carefully at my "not-so-great" photo, you'll see the waviness that I'm referring to just above the door arm rest at the door handle. It seems that I have these loose areas throughout the panel where the pattern doesn't exist.

OK I see what you are talking about. I lightened the picture in PS. Thats really nothing right now, but it looks like that could be the starting of it. I would watch it, it pretty much happens to all 87's with the custom lined int. Something like the armrests on 88-92 cars. Just incase you've never seen the fix for this and want to do it sometime or when you have the panels off: https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/doorpanel.shtml
