305 HO v 305

Hey, i was wondering what differences there were between the '85 305 HO L69 engine and the 305 LG4. Is it just the dual snorkle air cleaner, or is there more???

Thanks

The compression ratio is Different, I have also heard arguements that the cam is different too, but am not sure. The heads are the same as the LG4.

I'll just say, the cam in the LG4 could pleasure you more than a $100 prostitute... More bluntly, it sucks ****

Edit: I see you got the short end of the stick! Well, the dual snorkel is an improvement as is an open element. A new intake will help it wake up a little along with a cam swap. You could pick up 50+ Hp for about a grand. w/ exhaust, headers and cam... self installs of course.

The L69 got the corvette duration camshaft, dual snorkel air cleaner and a richer metering rods in the carb. People will argue that the heads are different but really GM wouldn't have spent the extra money on another set of heads.

Car: Met. Silver 85 IROC/Sold
Engine: 350 HO Deluxe (350ci/330hp)
Transmission: T-5 (Non-WC)
Axle/Gears: Limited Slip 3.23's
Also, the exhaust is bigger--bigger manifolds, bigger y-pipe, four-bolt cat, and bigger intermediate pipe. Check with RB83L69, the master of the HO cars for more.

Does anyone have the factory cam specs? I have been told that the original L69 cam has been disco from gm and they have switched part #'s to a less agressive one. If I can get the specs then maybe aftermarket has that profile cam. Any help?

Electric rad fans were used on the majority of thirdgens... Clutch fans were gone by 85 or so. Early on the L69 had an electric fan when the LG4 didn't, to save on parasitic power drain. Later everything including the V6's went to electric fans. Some TPI cars also received dual fans.

Don't be stupid. Swapping cam that sucks anus for one that still sucks anus, just marginally less so is retarded. Get a decent split pattern aftermarket grind.

The car is quick a 6.7 0-60 and 15sec 1/4mi???? I am completely restoring the car to original and want it to stay that way. If I want power I will use my driver 94 Eldorado 4.6 northstar or my 00 T/A don't need tons of power in a restoration piece but rather correctness.

What I want is the STOCK profile cam. When I am done with my T/A it will be upper 9's to low 10's. A 305 wont even come close to that. I have to say it is apperent that some have total disregard for originality. If that is what someone wants to do then let them do it and try and help out with specs rather then saying hop the **** out of a rare car that someone is spending alot of money to make it correct. Eventually I will have a blown LS6 in a third gen sleeper. Until then why wreck a otherwise restored rare car with engine mods. Where is the logic? I guess I will have to start a new post to get a decent answer on what factory spec is.

probably will yeah, if i had the car i would just stick a decent cam in it like a 270 or close, somewhere around mid 4's for lift.

good luck

Factory cam specs are on the tech data page on this site. Comp has a whole catalog section of OEM duplicate cams, contact them and seee if they can make you one. Some of the other cam mfrs offer this service too.

It's a crappy cam. I had it, hated it, got rid of it. IMHO it's the kind of "originality" that people would like to forget about. You can get cams that will pass enissions and get the same gas mileage, idle smooth, and produce more power. I'd recommend a Comp XE256H personally. I don't know what kind of car you have, but I seriously doubt that having it "original" down to that degree is going to make it any more valuable to anyone ever, and will more likely decrease its value to any real-world purchaser. These aren't rare cars, and even the ones that are (like mine) aren't rare enough or desirable enough to where anyone cares. And even if you drive it yourself, there's no sense in preserving an inferior aspect of "originality" just for the sake of being "original".

Hey RB83L69,

I thought I said it above but I went back and read it, I wasn't very clear. I have a 83 L69 Briar Brown w/ brown interior. Everyone can call me an idiot but it's more for my personal knowledge that the car is original. Correct me if I'm wrong saying that only the TPI was quicker in a third gen? How bad can it be if that's the case? If there is a cam that is more agressive but doesn't compromise idle I would consider it. The car will be driven seeing as it already has 176k on it. There are some small things that I am doing like putting power mirrors on, monster cable for power wires, and loud mouth exhaust. I am not keeping eveything original simply because I can't get everything perfect until there are some more restoration parts available and I will be driving it, I also want to be comfortable when doing so. Besides these things I am aquiring everything in the proper color and doing as much new GM stuff as possible. Since I am going to school I quit my job, but I am starting a new job tomorrow so I will have cash to spend on it! Drew you still got those brown parts? I still need em!
