Oil cooler

Does anyone have a diagram on what hoses hook up to the oil cooler? Mine are disconnected--but the lines are still there. Do they come from the lower part of the radiator? The metal lines are still wrapped around the oil pan. Any pics?

Sorry no pics. I had the same problem and the parts department at the dealership was nice enough to print me out a diagram from the parts computer. If I still have the pic I will see what i can do to post it.

That would be great!! I'd really like to hook that cooler back up.
Plus I have some emissions stuff I'd like to put back on.

Follow the 3/4-inch heater hose from the radiator (just below the filler cap. This hose connects to a rigid line that's bolted to the frame. The factory oil cooler lines are connected in series with this heater hose.

Replace this section of heater hose with two 3/4-inch hoses with pre-bent 90-degree elbows (and cut to length) and clamp them to the oil cooler lines. The elbows make for a very professional job.

thanks Willie. Would you happen to have a pic of it--or a diagram?
I tried looking under the car once--but it was hard to see some of it.

Sorry, I don't.

I tried looking under the car once--but it was hard to see some of it.

One end of the oil cooler lines is located very close to the fuel pump blockoff plate. In fact, the lines are supported by one of the lower front blockoff plate bolts. The hoses I described above attach to these ends.

The lines are routed in front of the oil pan, take a 90-degree turn to the back of the engine, then are routed along the driver's side of the oil pan. One of the oil pan bolts is actually a stud and used to support this portion of the lines. The lines terminate just in front of the oil cooler adapter, which is sandwiched between the block and oil filter. Two very short lengths of 3/4" heater hose are used to connect the lines to the sandwiched adapter. On later model Z28's with the oil cooler, a second design was used which eliminate the two short sections of hose. Hope this helps.

To enhance ******* description, I'll post mine and hopefully from the two of them you can get a good idea of how they're hooked up. Starting at the collar sandwiched between the oil filter and the block. You've got two sections of heater hose about 2" long, then the hard lines that run up to the front of the oil pan, across to the passengers side where they're bolted to the cover plate for the mechanical fuel pump boss, then they come up. The rear line runs to heater hose that runs to the heater core inside the car, the front line goes to the 3/4" port just below the radiator cap. I never noticed this till about an hour ago, since on my Formula I've got all the A/C crap, emissions crap, and the oil cooler and heater lines all on the passengers side, and the Iroc has always just been an oily mess.

Great! That does help out alot! When I stuck my head under there-it was actually on the driver side--I saw what you guys just described--but I couldn't follow where it routed--on the pass side.
Thanks again Willie and Drew!
