Re: hood insulator???

the pad is not required , many including myself have removed them and thrown them away . they were not installed for anything except sound supression , nothing else . it's your call but if i have underhood noises i want to hear them . the pad has no use for cooling only sound . they can be found if your going for show type restoration . good luck .

Re: hood insulator???

not for nothing guys but I was told that the insulator was to help protect the paint on the hood form engine heat

And you both are incorrect.....

6 3rd gens later...I've pulled the insulator off in my first week of ownership of each...Even repainted 2 of them.......And not a single one ever had paint issues on the hood afterwards, rather steel or fiberglass.

There was an issue of paint paint for some years, but only ones built at a particular assembly plant, as they tried to transfer over to the new (at the time) water-based paints.

There was never a heat problem with our cars paint.

Re: hood insulator???

i pulled mine off to see how my buddies mock up for my t/a vents would fit on the camaro. ok i just like the vents but i wanted them functional.
the mockup was off a little but i pulled that nasty pad off. should have word a hazmat suit - that thing was nasty.
i did not notice any sound difference.
but i will have to wait for the mockup again before i put the vents in.
