I need a rear pull down motor or just a plane jane hatch locking mechanism. So far I've gone through 4 pull done mechanisms and they've all failed. Now I'd just like a regular hatch hold down mechanism.

Does anyone have either.....

 

An easy fix is to pull that rear plastic piece off, slide the lock as far down as it'll go on the rails, and weld it there on the rail. Works great. To make sure, sit inside and hold the mechanism down, have someone outside close the hatch and push it fully down, mark/remember where the latch has to be, and weld.

If no welder, then I'm sure a tube of jb weld might work.

That was the first thing I thought of lol. My 86 has a fixed lock, new 87 has pulldown. First thought was to just weld it. I can post pics if it'd help

Found one at a local junkmyard for $20 bucks.... and it works. Lets see how long thia one lasts.

 

Keep your old one for parts.

The old one is TRASHED..... the "plastic" gear housing fell apart thus causing everything else to fail..... what a piece of junk GM came up with for this motor assembly.
