I need the rod that connects the outside door key lock to the locking system inside the door, passenger side. Evidently it fell out when I removed the door, did this on the driver side and I heard that one and found it.. This rod has a couple of bends in it, about 6 inches long approx It has L bends on each side, which lock into the plastic clip. They seem to make replacements for 2nd gens, but not 3rd gens.
ok here is the diagram I found, Its part number 7. Its not straight as indicated in this drawing, it has a couple of bends. But you get the picture. Brocks Camaro has some of the door rods on eBay but not this one. Both ends attach to the plastic clip.

Any of the usual suspects that regularly parts thirdgens should be able to hook you up. Try sending a PM to beths91camaro or John in RI. Or search ebay for sellers with piles of thirdgen parts and send a couple messages. Most people don't list stuff like that because there isn't a market. Or the part is so insignificant it's not worth selling since the hassle to profit ratio is unbalanced.
I've got a bunch of door linkages floating around, but probably not an extra passenger's side. It'd be awhile before I could dig one out anyway, and you seem to be in a hurry... Any how, just be patient, one will pop up for you.
I have patients. Just having a rough couple of weeks as of late. The car is the escape. I am sure someone will find one. Here is another pic. Thanks Drew.
yes, using the bottom pic, its the longer one on the left I believe. For the passenger door. What is kind of odd about that one in your pic is the bottom. Mine as an L bend on each side and slide into that black plastic clip on the top and it snaps over the rod. Hard to tell in your pic if the bottom of the rod is the same as the top.

This is so weird. The rod on my driver door is very similar but the bottom is like the top, L bend that goes in to the same plastic type clip. Thats how it installed.
If you want it, you can have the whole lock assembly as pictured for $10 plus shipping.
well i am interested in that for the price. Give me until tomorrow afternoon. I want to have a closer look at this setup on my car. 1987 vs. 1989 should be no different. Thanks for this dude, I will get back to you ASAP tomorrow for sure.
^^^That rod^^^ goes from the latch to the outside door handle.
The lock cylinder to latch rod is maybe 4" long, 90* bend on each end, zig-zag in the middle, plastic clip at the lock cylinder, metal clip at the latch assembly. Ie, it's the shorter one in the pics.
Gotta be a little careful about mixing parts relating to the door latches. The latches changed frequently, and GM used visually similar latches across different applications and in different years. If you're not careful, you can get weird results. That said, the parts catalog shows the same lock cylinder to latch rods for 86-91, so it should work...
TA8487 and Drew, thanks I will be confirming this weekend and update. I could not pull the car out yesterday, dead battery. Charged up now and will be wet sanding tomorrow. Thanks for the pics and help. Any yes Drew, its is very confusing in there.
TA8487 or Drew, YES that is the rod I need for my passenger door. I dont need the whole locking unit, just the rod. TA8487 I will buy the rod from you if OK, if you dont want to separate it from the locking mechanism I can by from Drew. Either way and I appreciate you both reaching out and helping a fellow 3 genner.
