odometer changing?

Ok guys so I've finally found a 240 km/h speedometer that I swapped into my cluster. I was going to swap the entire assembly but I found that mine was much cleaner and it was very easy to just bolt in the speedometer itself.

However this new speedometer has 300,000+ kms on it, while my car has an original 70,000kms on it. Is there an easy way to change the milage on the new speedometer to match my original one.. without breaking anything?

I put a drill onto this new speedo and gave it a twirl. After a few minutes it only moved a couple hundred kms. It would take alot longer then I willing to stand there and hang onto the drill. Also I wouldn't want to hold the drill wide open for fear of breaking something internally in the speedo.

Can the odometer be altered by hand?

It can, I believe there is a tech article on how to swap out the rollers. Do a search and I am sure it will pop up.

You can swap mileage rolls. There's a clip that holds the mileage roll in place. If you remove/loosen the two screws that keep the speedo face in place, push in the reset button, and let the face hang free, you can pull the clip and work the roll out between the face and the housing. I accomplished this swap when I went from an 85 to 110. I'd practice on the old speedo head first.
