reinstalling Apillar covers. need help.

Car: 89 RS
Engine: 2.8
Transmission: 700r4 auto
Axle/Gears: huh?? guessing stock.
reinstalling Apillar covers. need help.
I feel like a total fool here, but I cant seem to be able to get the darn A Pillar covers to go back on my 89 RS. I finally got around to recovering my headliner, I've had it out and waiting for about 3 months now, and cant seem to be able to get the top part to stay on.
The part that is kicking my ash is the top part above the windows. it looks like the clips in the car slide into grooves on the A Pillar cover, but if I get it back far enough for this to work, the front wont go into the spot it should be. Im really trying NOT to break these, but I have been fighting them on and off all day.
any advise?

I don't recall having difficulty (but I probably did). One trick that helped was to put a piece of tape on the outside of the pillar directly above the retainers, so that you'll know where to push:

ah-HA! thats my issue. I left the upper clips n he frame. guess I need to pull them out. Might just break them and buy new ones. Thanks.
