rip out carpets???

Whats up guys and girls. Last winter my heater core went and proceeded to fill up that low spot in the passenger side floor with anti freeze. So being lazy i mopped everything i could up with some towels and vacummed the rest with a wet/ dry shop vac. Instead of taking the 8 hours of my life to do a heater core, i just bypassed it so it cant come into the cabin. I thought everything was fine until today when i finally decided to pull the corner of the carpet out to slip my hand under. to my suprise it was still quite damp. i thought that the small amount of fluid would dissipate over time. Do i have to rip up the carpet or should i leave it and hope that antifreeze doesnt have any rust forming properties? OR, is this a normal f body thing and everybody gets fluid there if their t tops leak a bit?.

OEM carpet is rubber backed for that very reason to keep moisture from ever getting behind it

Problem with plans of good intention is they often do more harm than good

The rubber backing doesnt let much thru but whatever gets behind it, the rubber most certainly never allows to escape

To answer your question, yes this is a common thing for 3rd gens
And yes to remove the moisture you need to peel it back and let it dry
Im not sure if antifreeze would cause it to rust, but im purdy sure it would facilitate the rusting process if you ignored it

you should have a detail company or do it yourself, steam clean it and vaccum it that way cause its still in the foam beneath the carpet. No the anti-freeze cannot cause rust, unless its not anti-freeze if it were jsut water then yes you may have rust issue later.
