Need to replace cluster clear cover

I have a 140mph cluster in my Trans Am and the clear lens cover is broken. Do I need to find one from a 140mph cluster, or is the clear lens from the 120mph cluster the same?

Should be the same. Ide try to get one as close in year as you can... Im not sure if they will ALL fit. But most should. They are easy to change out.

Just curious...how the heck did you manage to crack that plastic piece??

Mine was broken when I bought my car...no idea how someone does something like this. At any rate, the lenses are the same from 1985-92, with the exception of the extremely poorly-optioned base models that only have the lens over two gauges, the rest of the instrumentation being comprised of idiot lights.

Re: Need to replace cluster clear cover

Does anyone know of a dealer / vendor that sells the new replacment clear lens cover? Anybody have a GM part number handy?

Also was there some models w/o a trip odometer built into the speedomemter? Mine has it and I wanted to make sure the lens cover had the provision for the **** to stick through.

Re: Need to replace cluster clear cover

I doubt this part is available new anywhere, except perhaps from a dealer as the entire gauge cluster assembly which would not be very cost-effective. I got mine from a junkyard, then took it home and polished it with a Mother's Ball and plastic polish. Looks brand new!

I don't have the part number handy, but I believe that GM does list a part number for the lens, and I looked it up due to the lower part of my speedo lens being broke. IIRC, they wanted like $100 or something for just the LENS, which I figure is kind of ridiculous. Best bet would be a junkyard, as was said above.

Re: Need to replace cluster clear cover

Keep your eyes open. I have seen clusters sold "as is" on ebay pretty cheap. Maybe call bruce at Hawk's and see if he has a broken cluster sitting around. They are pretty easy to work with and can sometimes find stuff not cataloged on their website. Put a posting on here saying something like Cluster wanted-don't care if it works. i'm sure somebody will come through for you.
