broke steering column need an opinion

my steering wheel column is coming loose again and is starting to woble idk what you call it but to fix it you have to completely tear down the column and put locktight on the bolts in the back. it happend about a year ago and we got it fixed at a shop, well it is doing it again. do you think i should just replace the whole column or fix it again? i dont want it to keep breaking like this b/c it is pretty dangerous to drive b/c when you turn the whole column moves to the side.

I say replace it. Unless you want to do it again in a year. Sounds like the first fix was more of a patch than anything. I just spoke with a guy that has some right now. Very nice and very reasonably priced.

I will pm his email to you.

I think he works by word of mouth mostly so you can tell him Phil from Louisiana sent you. I know he is located in PA.

Hope that helps.

The problem with replacing it with another steering column is that ALL tilt columns eventually have this problem. If you end up paying a mechanic to fix yours again, even if you have to stand over his shoulder while he's doing it, make sure he uses the high-strength "red" loctite on all 4 bolts and that he tightens the **** outta them. A lot of repair shops use lower strength threadlocker or none at all, which guarantees it'll come loose again eventually. The shop I used to work at used the red loctite on the screws and we never had one come back loose again.

I've got two sitting in the back of a car right now, both with keys- one tilt one without. You feel like driving to Atlanta?
