Retrofit a power pull down?

Is there a write up on here somewhere describing all the parts needed to swap a regular hatch to a power pull down?
My wifes car needs a power pull down, cuz we really have to slam it to get it to close.
is there any difference between the 82-92 as to how the thing mounts?

Thanks

You shouldn't have to slam your hatch that hard to get it closed, you could try replacing the latch or adjusting it up for a simple fix.

The power pull down mounts much different than the manual latch.
swapping one into your car will be a big job because the mount for the motor is welded to the car so if you want to swap one in you'll have to remove the mounting bracket and weld it in.
Also you will need to run wires to the hatch to power it up.

I must tell you that the power pull down is really a pain in the neck though, it breaks easily and really is more trouble than it's worth. I did the opposite of what you are doing, I mounted a manual latch in place of my power one, cause mine just never worked right.

Id like to see some pictures of the rear hatch area to see exactly what i'd be dealing with...
The car is a show car and only gets driven about 1000 miles a year, so durability is not an issue, but cracking the custom candy paint on the spoiler is, so i would gladly replace a broken motor than to try and have to match custom paint.

Your best bet would be to go to a junkyard and cannibalize all the parts from a power hatch equipped thirdgen. You'll still run the risk of hurting your custom paint to install it though since you'll have to do some welding to attach the correct bracketry to the tail panel.
