For us that have R12 and it leaks or have been told we need to swap to R410 for 1000.00. One thing you will not hear about at your local garage is HOT SHOT or R414a. It is a drop in replacement for R11 & 12. You do not need to recover what is in there or change oil. It sells for about 20 a can and an average system holds 3 cans. It can be picked up at a appliance shop or call a small HVAC contractor. It needs to be weighted in at 80% of system capacity. Have been using it for 5 years in my older vehicles, no problems. Its good to pressurize system to locate leak. Most of these can be pinpointed to dried out o rings. You do have to be CFC certified to buy. But cheaper to pay someone 100.00 to fix rather then 1000.00 to replace. Will not be able to tell diffrence. If they are not familiar with 414A find a real HVAC mechanic.
