Floor pan nightmare!

I just wanted to get a rough idea on how much work is involved in installing a new floor pan before I get started. The rusted out floor is the only thing keeping me from getting an inspection sticker in the windshield. It doesnt look like a piece of sheet metal is gonna do it this time.

How good are you at prepping and welding thin metal?

Have any problems with cutting large pieces out of your car?

Got the tools to do it right?

Yes yes yes = About a whole day to strip the interior, cut the bad parts out, fit the new sheets, weld em in, seal em up, and reinstall the interior

Good luck to you

Just make sure you leave no fabric left in the car. Welding sends hot sparks everywhere and is likely to ignite anything that is fabric. Either hang a damp bath towel over your open driver and passenger side windows so that the panels are covered, or just take them out. The towel method is probably easier. For this reason though, disconnect your negative battery terminal. You probably wont need to, but what the heck it takes two seconds. Also, as insurance, I'd keep a fire extinguisher, or a bucket of water handy. I've seen interiors go up before, not fun.

EDIT: Your headliner will be fine, lol I don't think that's gonna be an issue

The part about buying the car was actually a joke. It seemed funny in my head, but most things do. What I actually ment was I can hardly wait to get started messin around with all that fun stuff out there in sub-zero temps, snow, no garage and no mechanical or welding abilities what so ever.

you can always rivet the floor in but it's not that nice of a job and takes alot more time drilling hols and putting the rivets in

Re: Floor pan nightmare!

4get-it. Slapped some sheet metal in that bad boy and skipped the inspection all together.
