door panel swap

i have the earlier style door panels with the "huge rectangular" door handle/switch plate and i was wondering how much of a PITA it is to change to the GTA style with the smaller plate. i do not have power mirrors.
thanks

its not all that bad. I did it in my 84 T/A. The hardest part is that you need to swap the steel bracket riveted to the door that the door handle screws into.

Your current bracket has a triangular piece that the handles screw into, the "gta style" door panels have a bracket that's more of a ledge that sits under the handle. You drill out or grind off the rivets that hold the bracket to the door, and only two of the rivet holes line up from one bracket to the other. It's enough to position it properly and you do some more drilling and riveting to secure the new bracket, then install the door panel without any additional difficulties.

I got the bracket from the same car i got the door panels from at the junkyard. I'm not sure if they are available new any more, but I doubt it. They wouldn't be terribly hard to fabricate given measurements. It just has two 90 degree bends

FYI- here is another member that is looking to swap deluxe door panel brackets for standard door handle brackets.

Also, i asked in another thread if you had any more pictures of your spoiler, particularly straight on rear views and side view. I saved several pictures of it already, but would like to see more views
