Need Some more carpet help!
need some help on some carpet prices.. without sponsorships or who you know have you found any place that has been less then
$226.94 for acs/dorsett 800 complete passenger/cargo carpet?
$133.33 shipped for ACC 800 complete carpet?
these seem pretty cheap as they are, just curious though...
when i bought ACC for my 91 originally back in 2000 i paid $330 complete for the front and rear, now it's only $133.33
i've been told ACS/dorsett 800 is much nicer but i have yet to see it in person. i have a gm display that i have to build 4 thirdgens for so this price difference really adds up for 4 cars. so if you have input on a better price or at least the quality of the two meaning you have personally seen both carpet sets and have a preference let me know as i'm trying to figure out if ACS is really worth almost double the price? thanks!!

A little different question, but does anyone know if either of these companies offers carpet to cover the plastics with as well? I want to get new carpet, but the carpet on the plastics has to match as well as the door panels.
If you have a Menards hardware store in your area, they sell cheap black carpet that really isn't that bad. When I put this carpet in my brother's 95 t/a, the entire carpet only ran $30 but we had to cut it to fit. I put this carpet in my daily driver 92 firebird and its held up alright for 2 years now. Otherwise, look into some local upholstry shops, if there is any in your area, if you want different colors or better quality.

i'm sorry i wasn't clear as i did not find that through ACC direct. it was through one of their dealers.

a complete carpet replacement here in michigan runs $700 range. i can do it in 4 hours with my own cost time and save $500.

Man, you can't tease us with a good price like that and then not tell us where! It would be greatly appreciated if you let us know where you found that price for the complete ACC set! I need carpet as well.

I ordered mine through Hawks and it only took about a week to get it. It was ACC and fit nice. The install went pretty smooth except fighting it over the tunnel (Kicked my !#$). Not sure if you have a desire to glue it down but don't buy the spray on adhesive from any of the Carpet places. Go down to Wal-Mart and you will get it cheaper. A good sharp utility knife and you can be done in about 4 hours.

Looks like pretty good stuff.
1st and last hint you'll receive from me...
as a beginning bargain hunter that you must be, i only say this for the following. there are paying sponsors of this site, sponsors that wouldn't take so kindly to posting prices as i'm surprised it wasn't shut down yet. in order to know where to go it helps to do some of the leg work yourself as everything isn't always handed to you.
i've received alot of pm's about this so i'll tell all of you right now and here in the open. if you would like to know where i got the carpet that cheap from do me this favor before you pm me.
call at least 3-4 places and see if you can beat it. if you can then great... i'm sure you can as the company i bought it from is still making money. email me those companies you called and their prices. once i have those then i'll help you out since it will be obvious that you tried.
oh... and don't send me emails with prices that you found listed online as i'll know the difference. i spent almost 2 days calling roughly 15 companies to find the places where i did, if i feel you tried then sure i'll help you.
don't mind the attitude just want people to at least try a bit themselves..

Understand that completely, Been searching online for ten minutes and have found it under 200 for the fron and rear compartment. Guess it save to do a little looking.

granted the above is cheap but i've just found it even cheaper, unfortunately my order is already on it's way but the above prices i'm ok with. $500 as i was first quoted from one of the stores for the complete set is too much for this specific carpet sets. they are nice but not that nice..

Are you finding these prices online, i called quite a few upholstry places around town and i was able to find it installed for 250.00 at a couple places and it was not the molded sets and was cut to fit. they are charging anywhere from 250-450 for the molded set NOT installed. thats a heck of a difference. Where ever you were able to find that price is a steal from the quotes im getting. They also need the car for 2 days, ive read it takes about 4-5 hours to install, I am going to order it from stokinteriors in the morning cause im tired of the tin can affect.

Well, I wouldn't have a problem with helping out fellow board members if I found a great deal on something. Isn't that what these boards are for?
I've only looked and researched a little online so far. It seems the ACS/Dorsett is considered to be better quality, as the ACC is known to fade quickly. So far, RockAuto seems to be the best price for ACS that I've found, and shipping isn't too bad either.

No, when you go to their catalog under your specific model/year of car, I think that's only for the front passenger carpet, but I'm only 90% sure. What you have to do is a part number search....
Per the ACS/Dorsett website, the part numbers for 3rd gens are "513" for passenger area and "513CG" for the cargo area.
So at Rockauto do a part number search...
Part Number = 513 or 513CG
Manufacturer = ACS/DORSETT
For some odd reason it ends up being a couple bucks cheaper searching this way too!

glad to see you guys are doing your research. rock does have great prices.
801513C is for the front passenger area and should run you 104.99 or less.
801513CG is for the rear cargo section and should runn you $86.98 or less.
for the nicer essex line change part number/color code to 1001
this is rock auto's pricing of course..

carpet arrived earlier today... just laid out the rear. not too impressed. it definately isn't any better then acc, i have yet to open the essex line or layout the passenger area but as of now price is the only reason i'd pickup dorsett carpet.

So you ended up getting both types of the Dorsett? Let us know what you think when you open the other or install it.
Do you think the 800 is worse than ACC?

I'm surprised you're not impressed with it Kandied. From what I've heard, ACS is the best available (but then again, I guess there is only ACC and ACS). I ordered a couple color samples of the ultra plush or 1000 series from StockInteriors.com and they look pretty good. I can't seem to decide if what they sell is the same as ACS/Dorsett but they say it is made in Dorsett Mills so I'm assuming that it is.
Breedo, what thread count did you end up going with? Let me know how it turns out.

this acs stuff i used plain paper scissors to cut it to fit lol...
i have yet to open the 1001 and to be honest i'm scared but it's cheap enough i guess i will sometime this week to see.
don't get me wrong the carpet is a decent replacement for the factory piece as it isn't ugly. just isn't what i expected. with the 800 series acs/dorsett or ACC i'd go with whomever you can get the best deal from. to say you have one or the other on your car means nothing.
----------
it looks nice yes... you'll be just fine with it. my whole point for people looking is the fact not to worry about one or the other. the one upside that i was told is that the acs sheds less. this i can so far vouch with as the rear section i did last night i hardly had any shedding. we'll see when i get to the front area today. if that doesn't shed either then i'll give it a +1 over the acc for that alone but it's thickness is definately lacking.

Kandied, I'm eager to see how it looks. You'll have to give us a few pictures sometime. Also, did your carpet come with the rubber backing, or just the poly backing?
with the 800 i did the poly, no rubber backing. the 1000 i picked it up with the rubber backing. still haven't opened it. just finished the front today. the foot pad isn't factory but at least it's there. the front area definately shed more then the rear.
the only other point that i was told that made acs superior is it's fade quality, however due to time constraints i obviously can't comment on that.
all in all it isn't a horrible carpet, i was just expecting it to be more the acc. definately pick up which ever company you get the best price from.

Its in transit, cant wait to get it in! Picked up a 4th gen console and looking for some seats to put in, as soon as I get the carpet I will let you know how it is. I was debating spraying the inside with ruberized undercoating to help with the road noise and such, I have about 10 cans of it and would like some opinions before I put the carpet down.
I don't know about the rubber coating, I just don't think it will do much.
You could do what I did.
Go to Lowes, and go to the roofing section. Looks for a product called 'Seel and Peal'
It's comes in a roll for about $13.
One Roll should do the carpet area, and it will help cut down road noise better then the rubber coating since it's thicker. If you really want to cut it down, you could put two layers of it.

well, got the carpet in today and seems pretty good. The only problem is there are NO holes in it, not even for the console. Guess Ive got my work cut out for me. I ordered the dark graphite and it looks really good, a lot darker than the gray but a lot lighter than black, guess its between black and dark gray. krrp you informed on the install.

i wouldn't do it but that's me... that stuff is a mess..

as far as the mentioning about the roof tar mat... again something that is a mess and stinks in the summer. it's not worth it to me personally but everyone's different. if the noise is that bad get a better tire or quiet your exhaust as with good carpet and proper seals on your car you shouldn't hear that much noise.

Re: Need Some more carpet help!
Any update on the ACS 800/900/1000 carpet? I remember the ACC carpet had nice backing, and it sounds like ACS does not. Is this only with the 800 series? How is it with shedding?
Re: Need Some more carpet help!
I have ACC 1000 count in my bird right now
You get what you pay for
The backing is there but its thinner than stock
The thread count is high but the thread used is not uniform all over
Several places the dye didnt sink in all the way so a few threads are dark grey in the middle of my black. I also for some crazy reason have 2 red threads in my hatch area. Took some black art paint and covered them so its not as obvious
Its cut oversize so you can fit it in the car. The pans are not completely molded and will take a few months of use to stretch out fully
Mine was $220 last summer when I put it in
Its a great deal if you original sucks but their claims of "Show Quality" are hogwash

Re: Need Some more carpet help!
i have yet to roll out the acs esex line so i can't comment but as for as acc versus acs dorsett i guess i'd just go with which every you can get cheaper. quality isn't that nice with either but they work for their purpose and at a reasonable price you can replace the carpet again down the road i guess.
for the price i'm happy with the acs but i wouldn't pay retail. unfortunately their just aren't many options. if you are worried about thickness and backing get the 1000 or essex lines and make sure you get the matt option for the backing.
for $200 you can't expect much i guess..

What carpet would you get that you would be happy with/ consider a quality replacment. If you were going down the 'do it once, do it right' road, instead of 'it looks ok'?
Re: Need Some more carpet help!
if money isn't an object.... there is a shop i found in sarnia canada up past port huron. they just did my 91 carpet. the carpet is so tight it looks like suede. won't bother repeating the price though.
if money is an object i'm sure the essex line of ACS/Dorsett will fit your needs. if you want it a little closer to the oem carpet get it with the matte backing.
in all reality the 800 from either really isn't that bad. follow the directions and it turns out alright. just isn't as thick and won't hold up as long but you can't expect much for $200+ range.

Re: Need Some more carpet help!
I ended up getting the ACS/Dorsett 800 series through rockauto. To be honest, I am quite pleased with it. It looks good and fit pretty well too. The carpet isn't as thin as I thought it was going to be. The backing is indeed way different from the original carpet. It's a lot thinner and a different material, but serves it's purpose. If you want a heavy backing like the original, order the matte backing. The heel pad is different from stock too, but it doesn't bother me. It'll be under a floor mat anyways. It doesn't come with cutouts, so you'll have to cut the holes yourself and trim the edges. I laid my old carpet on top of it and used it as a template. For $100, I think it's a great replacement carpet for a daily driver or cruisin car. If you have a show car, maybe the essex line would suite you better. Here's a few pics...
