Help me out guys...Berlinetta Console?
Help me out guys...Berlinetta Console?
Hello everyone. I am trying to find out some truth and clarification to this question...hopefully someone here can help me out. Were there any differences between the center consoles between the Berlinetta model and the other various Camaro models? Are there any Berlinetta owners out here who could share a picture of two of your console?
Reason I ask. I am a G-body owner looking for a new center console. I have been told that only Berlinetta consoles fit into our cars...while the IROC/Z28/Sport coupe model consoles do not fit (because of the front stowage/radio slot). Can anyone here shine some light on the difference?
Thanks!

I cant much help you with many pics cuz my berlinetta went to the crusher
But i still have the console and this ancient pic
Berlinettas had a small radio "stand" instead of the standard pod
For this they extended a slight more forward and had a small notch cut from teh shifter plate for the stand shaft
ONLY console that will fit? I doubt that. Theres a guy that fit a console from a RX8 in his bird. Nothing is impossible and if your a decent carpenter you can even make a custom job from wood

Re: Help me out guys...Berlinetta Console?
the 84-86 consoles were the ones that were different, the 82-83 berlinettas had a regular Camaro console.
I have one from an 83 berlinetta in my Bird.
So, If you are looking for the different style console, you need to look in 84-86 Berlinettas these consoles came in
cars with the so called "Star wars" digital dash.

Ahhh...I see now. Thanks for clarifying that information.
When I said only console I meant that the Berlinetta console is the only Third-Gen Camaro console that will fit into a G-body (Monte Carlo SS). The other "normal" models do not fit because of the large front end.
Did the special Berlinetta ones come in manual? Now I just need to find one of these for sale...eBay has normal consoles, but no Berlinettas.

I don't see how you'd get a berlinetta console to look right in a monte unless you do something about the goofy radio pod area.

Re: Help me out guys...Berlinetta Console?
I have owned an 84 berlinetta and have an 87 grand prix (pretty close to a monte.) and In no way could I imagine the berlinetta console to fit in without just as much fabrication as any other third gen console. Especially since I've never seen a g-body with an e-brake in the console.

There is going to be some fab work of course, I would say most console conversions require at least a little fab. Here is a picture of a Berlinetta console inside a Monte SS.

Now as you can see he removed the swivel radio thing (why keep it?) and fabbed some cupholders in there. It's some modification to the top plate, but for most part it seems the console is complete. Yes, the Monte e-Brake is by the foot pedals, some good work would be required to move it to the center to work with the console.

Re: Help me out guys...Berlinetta Console?
In my opinion it looks slightly out of place, but not too bad. And I see what you mean by it being the only one that will fit, which I believe is true, because all other consoles aren't as long, and the extra length seems to be needed. As far as finding one, if ebay isn't turning any results, you could look up some local junk yards in the yellow pages and go through them. Also if you haven't already, try posting in the classified section or in the virtual junkyard forums on this site.

That's not really true. The V8 version of the Digital Berlinetta was NEVER offered with a T5; meaning the only standard Berlinettas were V6's.
Ya'..... I've got just about everything you would need - but getting you a 5 speed shifter isn't going to be easy or cheap.

Re: Help me out guys...Berlinetta Console?
How much for a complete console, minus the actual shifter? I'm in the same boat as Swankerme. Is it possible to get the buttons as well?
I'd be able to pick up since I'm in MA

Re: Help me out guys...Berlinetta Console?
I would think a Firebird or Trans/Am console would be much better because the radio/HVAC pod is a separate piece from the console.
Re: Help me out guys...Berlinetta Console?
G-bodys are bigger cars, therefore requiring a longer console, which only the berlinetta has. The firebird console is much shorter and wouldn't make the distance to the radio pod.
