Re: before and after pics

You wanted me to post my thoughts so here it goes.

I think it looks horrible, something that belongs on a ridiculous import.

However, It is obvious, that you put forth alot of effort and it shows. I give you an A+ for effort and a D for style. This is my opinion, not a fact.

I love the red and black, however it does not match the gold outside (all black would be better imo) and those Z28 rims....thats no no on a T/A. What are your other plans w/this car?

Although I'm a fan of the tan and black I think it looks great. did you recover the door pannels yourself? they look a lot better.

Too much red for me. Perhaps changing the exterior to match would help. Though your original color scheme is one of the better ones put on these cars.

Re: before and after pics

Red and black is a good combo, classic. Usually base red with black trim. Base red with black trim is usually too bright. The 3rd gens that had stock red interiors are usually very faded by now and look terrible. I can't help but think "why would GM have used red interior"?? In a few years you might be asking yourself the same thing
Very good job done, but i'd have to agree with Nelapse (in a slightly more canadian fashion ), that I don't like the coloring scheme myself. And i've mentioned why.

However! The door panels, how did you do that? Did you simply replace the entire door panel, or did you dye the material, or...??

Re: before and after pics

lol you say why did they use red and i say why use tan.

the out side will be red and black either black with red fire bird or black with red metalic chips not sure yet thou.

The door panels are factory i used the fabric spray paint

my question is why does it look like an import i say it looks custom?

Re: before and after pics

Usually "custom" is the same as import. The guys who customize hot rods, ie, non import cars usually avoid the bright red and yellows that the import customizers use. The domestic customizers use the blue, white, black colors. Not quite as loud. It's not like you've put on a big wing, or a huge wide mouth grill - so I think you're ok

Fabric spray paint on the panels - Can you explain a bit more? I've never had much luck with this stuff. Have you painted any plastic panels as well? My plastic painting seems to wear off really easily, ie, the door jams.
Your door panels look very well done, that's why i'm wondering what stuff you used to do such a good job at home.

Re: before and after pics

That red is a little bright for me, but overall I like the interior. I just think it's a terrible match for the black & gold exterior. When/if you do the red & black exterior it may help, or it may wind up looking way too over the top. I think the best compliment to that interior would be a simple single-color black exterior.

The interior looks great. Who cares what other people think. They didnt say it looked like crap, just they didnt like color. That is why it is called "CUSTOM". Too many people think custom means installing a chrome air cleaner. Looks great.

I would expect most people to think custom means "not stock" regardless of how flashy or subdued it is. My car is custom in every sense of the word, but 95% of the people who look at it wouldn't have any idea what changes I made except for the hood, which is pretty obvious. But regardless, everybody has different tastes. For me, I find subtle mods to be the most tasteful, but others certainly like more contrast.

Re: before and after pics

Well since everyone else seemed to put their "two cents" in, I'll toss mine into the well also. You made the car yours, whether some like it or not, its yours, and thats all that matters. You can say you did it yourself, and no one can take that away from you. Congrats! Because lots of people here can't say that. Keep up the good work, and enjoy the benefits or YOUR hard work! I'm not going to talk negative on a project that you did, nor will I trash your wheel choice, although, I think a black GTA honeycomb 16" wheel would look great, and keep it 3rd gen. Thats my opinion, thank you all and good night! LOL

They don't sell them new, that's the problem of all 82-84 birds dash buttons, they get greyish with time and the letters fade.
I took them apart, cleaned them as much as possible, and polished them. Since the markings were gone, I rewrote them with a white pen. It takes some time to get a good result. Then I applied a bit of satin clear coat on top of the button. Here's the result.

I must be honest, I really don't like you two tone scheme. Two tone needs to be more subtle : max 80% black, 20% red or the opposite.

Re: before and after pics

I will be doing the two tone Black/Red theme on the inside of my car, but i have a Camaro and the Stock color of my Car is Actually Red. My Door Panels are gonna be Red vinyl and my seats will be Black Vinyl with Red Centers.

I have noticed that your new gauges have red lighting. I can tell you that looks good. I have that already in my car and i still have the original tan interior. I'm pleased with that Choice as i'm sure you will be. Nice Gauge work too. Firebirds don't have the aftermarket Dash support that Camaros do. I understand where you're coming from. It may not exactly match now, but it's a project. That's the whole point. you're working towards a future payoff. Once you reach it, everyone will beam at your Genius. I'm with you dude.

thanks 383power

to solargoldraptor great job on redoing them looks great. I did find new power window buttons.

to aqualordx93 and hydrolic144 the seats i had reapolstered and the door panels I cleaned and painted with dupli color spray paint for viynal and fabric.

I would like to one day make and custom dash with all the after market gauges to put in it. I've seen a couple done on here that look good. Just not sure were to start.
