A/C Vent trouble... Stuck in one setting.
My vents are stuck on the setting where the cool air blows out of the dash pad. I pulled out the HVAC and the vacuum switch is all connected so WTF?
How can I rig it to blow out only through the front of the dash? Can I just connect two of the hoses to rig it?
Any ideas?

Why "rig it"? If memory serves me, when there is a vacuum leak, the system defaults to the Defrost setting. Me thinks you have a vacuum leak somewhere.

Slepewesel is right: the defrost setting is the default. The vac control switch is often to blame. Put your ear close the right side of the control and give a listen.

When I was working on my distributor, replacing the rotor, I had noticed that one of the vacuum lines that was beside the distributor had a hole in it. I talked to my uncle and my father about it and they said that on a firebird, that vacuum line is the common problem because of heat and rubbing. I'd check it out and see if that isn't the problem.

I "believe" this is what you need: Valve Vac Sel GM part # 16032395. The number is good on GMPartsDirect.

Yep, mine was hard and cracked right where it goes into the loom with the wiring that goes into the car. I've had defrost only for the past 2 years.
