hatch motor problems
OK, I just want to confirm all that I have read on this interior forum about the rear hatch motor and, I might say, there is a lot. At this point, I believe I have a bad motor.
I have ordered, recieved and installed the gear drive for the motor from Lon at TDS, excellent service as always. As Lon says, motor runs w/o pulling the hatch down, it is a broken gear drive. However, before I did that, I mistakenly pulled the motor housing off of the motor, wrong thing to do, I now know. I reassembled the motor and the housing, making sure the brushes were in their proper place. BTW, I have a 92 RS as my sig shows, which in this case, Lon says is a little different from all previous 3rd gens. Mechanically, my hatch setup is golden. Now that I have it back together, I cannot get the motor to work. Here is what happens when I press the paddle that activates the motor when the hatch is closed: The light for the "trunk area" dims slightly, I hear a click on the relay that is just left and below the motor assembly and I feel a slight tap on the side of the actual motor. If I keep the paddle depressed, the motor housing and the relay start to warm up. When I checked the contacts going to the motor prior to pressing the aforementioned paddle down, I get about .25 volts. Once the paddle is pressed down, I get about 11.5 volts on one of the contacts. Thus, I know the motor is getting the proper voltage but still nothing happens. After checking the two fuse locations on the fuse block and both of them OK and spending an hour or so just checking wiring schematics, just for grins, I pulled the motor housing off again. I found that some pieces fell off of the brushes as I removed the housing. That's why I believe I need a motor. What do you think? I believe the motor and the hatch assembly is one piece, is that corrrect? Help!!!!!!!
