My roof console

I finally got around to getting my headliner installed, and I installed a roof console as well. Came out of a late 90's Blazer. Has a compass, thermometer, avg speed, fuel consumption, trip computer.... but right now the only thing that works is the compass. I have to go back to the junkyard and get the sensor for the temp, and I'm not sure what need to do to get the fuel and odometer functions to work. The lights work independently of the dome lights so they dont come on unless you tap them. Not too bad for 6 bucks though I'd say!
Sorry for the horrible pic quality, my camera phone seems to take worse and worse pics as time goes on.

Re: My roof console

Should you get everything to work, a how-to would be very nice.

Re: My roof console

for sure. I have the wiring here, but it makes no sense.
For the lights, the orange wire was for power, and the black was ground.
I'm gonna get the rest hooked up sometime soon tho.

Re: My roof console

Could the display screen slide free of the plastic housing? Best guesstimate. For those of us with the 3rd gen overhead consoles, removing the date/time wheels on the overhead console and putting in a compass / temp digital display would be awesome. Just need something small enough to fit.

Very inventive. Definately stirs the creative juices.

Re: My roof console

I see no reason why that wouldnt work. You'd have to figure out new buttons, as the grey buttons are part of the exterior, but the rest of all that does come free. I was actually messing with that, because I want to change the blue display to red somehow.

Re: My roof console

That looks AWESOME! How may I ask did you mount it???? I realyl wanted to do that, perhaps mount some gauges or something in one but mounting the console is my main concern about these things.

Re: My roof console

Well, in the blazer theres a single screw that goes into a brace that runs down the center of the roof. On mine, I put two, one in front, one in back, just drilled into the center bar. Theres a big plastic bracket that has the compass attached. Then the outer part that you see snaps on, using metal clips just like what hold the radio trim on. And theres a single screw near the windshield side that holds it even tighter.
