Window problems

One of the windows on the camaro will only roll down three inches then if you keep holding the button down it pops. Also if you roll it up all the way and continue to hold the button it also pops.

I took the door panel off and pulled the the plastic down. I used an inspection mirror to watch everything as I moved the window, I did not notice anything. I found the popping noise to come from the motor and the gear that goes to it.

Any likely causes to this? All the "runners" looked good, I saw no obstructions on them.

What limits the window from rolling up past all the way up?

My plan is to grab the "gear piece" and a motor from a junkyard to see if that fixed the problem.

Also are all the power windows the same in all the f-bodys from 82-92?

Thanks.

It may be that the popping you hear is the thermal switch going off because the window is binding. You might experiment with the guides shown in the following pic:

Thanks man, I am going to try that as soon as I get back in town.

That is even the same color as my car! Thanks again.

Since you're going to be nearly in the door anyway, perhaps the following link will provide some insight/inspiration:

Re: Window problems

I tried moving those guides you showed in a couple different places, it did not have any effect on the problem at all.

I really think it has something to do with the piece that attaches to the motor gear.

On a side note what do you do with the plastic piece once you remove your door panel? Do you glue it back up or just rip it out? Thanks.

Re: Window problems

Ok on mine which is the manual window having a similar problem(s) it turned out to be a bunch of broken teeth on the gear arm. I just welded it and used a Dremel to create new teeth. It worked amazingly well!
Now I just have to figure out how to get the damned thing back in there since I broke the rivets getting it out (you have to) I have a rivet gun but the ones that were in there were really big.
Just replace these with bolts? Maybe a large machine screw or something?
