Fuel gage problem, new cluster

I just put a 145mph cluster in my RS that originally came out of an '87 Iroc. All the gauges work except the fuel gage. I've driven 90 miles so far (this would normally read between 1/2 and 3/4 of a tank on my old cluster) and it's still sitting on full or a tad below. I'm 99% sure this isn't a bad float since the old gauge worked the day I took it out. Is it not making a good contact, or do I have a little mean leprechaun that lives in my new cluster that screws things up?

Why dont you just pull the fuel gauge and put the old one in its place and see if that helps, also ive eard of people having problems when switching the whole cluster, it might be better to just switch the speedos.

I've sold a number of clusters. Occasionally electrical problems cropped which is why I started advising buyers to only simply swap in the speedo head--especially if their original guages functioned as designed. I agree with camaro, the easiest fix under the circumstances would be to swap fuel gauges.

Re: Fuel gage problem, new cluster

Well, apparently I typed this thread too soon. It is functioning properly after all. Since I have installed the new cluster, I have been driving a lot more highway miles and it just stayed near full longer than I am used to on my normal commute. I've driven around 230 miles and it's on the 1/4 mark, where I normally fill up. Thanks for all the replies and will keep the advice in mind if I install my old cluster elsewhere.
