ok so a short while back the spring or something broke on the console button.. no big deal, now instead of pushing the button to open the console, you can lift the lid at any time without pushing the button, until the other day..

I went to get into my center console and it will not open, nor will the button push in... its like half way in. I've tried pressing the button, pulling it out, hell I've even tried prying open the console door with a screw driver and I've tried pounding on the top of it to jar something loose so the button will press in.

I've tried everything I can think of short of breaking or causing any damage to open the center console door. My wallet, cell phone, ect is trapped inside and I need to get my stuff out!!

any ideas?

Try sliding something flat and thin like a nail file or a hacksaw blade in there to release the catch.

 

I had this happen one time i just kept hitting the button and it finall pushed in

 

thanks Apeiron, I'll have to try a hacksaw blade or something, I never thought of that.

..and trust me when I say I've hit the button several hundred times.

 

center console lids do this all the time, even in new cars. thats why so many are broken, also the "hook end" will open easier with no pressure or by pushing down on it while trying to work the flat blade against it

Did you ever get this fixed? My IROC is doing the same thing! Center console won't open. I got my weed in there too!
