Fabric spray paint...quality/safety?

I was in Home Depot the other day in the paint section and came upon a product I didn't know existed...a spray paint that is specifically for fabric. it says it can be used on all types of fabrics/materials (auto included).

I was just wondering if anyonew has any experience with a fabric spray paint? Im concerned on how it comes out? does it leave residue (ex. if i were to get in the car wet from the rain would it run off on my clothes?) does it leave the fabric in the same condition before it was used (soft to the toch, etc? or does it 'harden' it up)

anyone who has any experience with fabric spray paints please speak up..looking for any and all info on this product. thanks!

It is JUNK,is makes the cloth stiff. It is a solvent based dye(more or less paint).

hey I know this is an old post, the spray is ok as long as you dont overdo it. I wouldnt spray the seats though. headliner, door interior, and sail pannels will be perfect. there isnt alot of wear on those areas.

I have had to replace 3 carpet's and countless seat cover's from people use this stuff.Clothes are not designed to be dyed with a solvent based dye, they can be dyed with a water based dye.

When I worked at the dealership we always used the Sem stuff, and never had issues (we rarly did seats except when they looked real bad on a trade in) is that giving fits, or could it be the ones you deal with are using the old spray paitn trick (alot of used car dealers will use a basic can of spray paint on the carpets to make them look newer)

Everyone of them have used Dupli-Color vinyl and fabric dye, which is the same stuff that Home Depot sell's.And SEM's is a water based dye which can be safley used on fabric and carpet's,and I feel is a more durable type of dye.

just redo tha fabric and be done with it! there I said it. happy now? this isnt a dealership.....I didnt say anything about carpet did I? No, I said headliners and sail pannels. no wear areas! that inludes seats and carpets! I have the stuff in a truck and it all looks good I have had the truck for two years. I didnt spray areas i would be resting my arms or siting on. once this material dries rub it to get the dry overspray off and it will be fine. not factory quality but fine. if you are going for quality get new upholstery.

It is good stuff, but I dont know about the kind home depot sells.I bought mine online.I admit,I paid more, but the old saying goes, you get what you pay for.I used some on my firebird back seats to dye the to match the front seats I bought from a 96 firebird.BUT YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW THE DIRECTIonsS!!!You apply a small amout at a time and my directions said to brush my seats with a hairbrush. It turned out great and will not "wear off on clothes".John

Give it time and it WILL wear off on your clothes, and I have seen too many cloth seat's dyed with the wrong type dye and replaced them in the long run.
