so i bought some 4th gen seats and the seat belt loops on the side of the headrests are soild. if I unbolt the seatbelts from the bottom on the floor pan, will they fit through the loop?? ... or do I need to modify them to work.

thanks for your time.

If you want to use the ones you have, you will need to cut a slit, inbetween the screw holes.

Otherwise you can do what I did and get ones for a 97-02 Convertible, they already have slits in them.

Re: 4th gen seat seatbelt loops

If you are using thirdgen seat belts still, you will need to slit the loop or get one already slit.

I bought some for my 4th gen seats, and I had 4th gen belts in the car. The bottoms of the 4th gen belts arent retractors, and I believe they fit through the 4th gen hoops. The 3rd gens have a retractor on the bottom and top.

Atleast thats what I remember...Im pretty sure my 4th gen loops arent slit. And thats the only way I can think that I got them on there....been awhile...

Re: 4th gen seat seatbelt loops

thanks guys... I was looking at the retactor on the bottom of the seat belt thinking there was no way it is going to fit within the loop, and the top retractor is even larger.

I didn't realize 4th gens do not have a retractor on the bottom.

Looks like I'll be cutting a slit into the loop for the belts as I had thought, thanks for the confirmation. I'll keep my eye out for the corvette model loops.

MNformula350 - those are the exact same seats I picked up.

Re: 4th gen seat seatbelt loops

Might be a good time to swap in 4th gen belts if you want. I dont know about yours, but my 3rd gen belts were sloppy. While driving down the road, the belt would gain slack and become annoying. Plus the retractor didnt work well. my 87 was like this...and I swapped to 4th gen belts.

I just picked up an 86, garage kept, with only 40k miles...and those belts do the same thing. So Ill be picking up a another set of 4th gen belts. Just an idea...if your belts arent working good.

If they are...great!

Re: 4th gen seat seatbelt loops

good idea, I may look into some 4th gen seat belts.

I bolted in the seats today, they look good and are better form fitting to the body. I slit the seat belt loops are suggested, worked like a charm and looks good.

I forgot to take pics before I put seat covers on.. oh well.

I am pretty sure this is how they are supposed to operate, both of my cars do the same thing.

Also just so you know the 4th gen belts are a direct bolt in but at the bottom they are like the female part of the buckle, so you will have a large gap of missing plastic in the interior rocker panel piece. Supposedly the 82-83 had similar seatbelts to the 4th gens and I have heard people are using those panel pieces for the 4th gen belt swap.

The shoulder strap on my 3rd gen belts are also loose. It makes me wonder if they are even safe to use so I was thinking about swapping to a fourth gen belt. How easy is the swap? How long will it take? What parts will be needed? Can these parts be bought new as replacement parts? Anyone have pics of the finished swap?
