Easy SHifting

I think this where this article should be.

Well I dont know if its just my car but getting in drive or any other gear (Automatic)is hard to get into i have to use alot of force to move the shift lever into gears. Is there a way to get around this.Is there a locking device?
Or is it just HOw it is?

Re: Easy SHifting

When you say hard, how hard? Mine takes effort to get into 1, which is reasonable for a couple reasons (rubber dust boot on bottom end of cable acting as a spring, console leather/vinyl boot pulling tight). All the other gears are moderately easy.

Maybe pull your cable out and check if it's binding, maybe replace it. It's easy to take out, the hardest part is jacking the car up. Three botls on the trans, a wrist pin on the shifter, then squeeze the rubber thing through the floor and viola! While you have the cable out, make sure it's not the actual shifter in the console acting up. It should move ridiculously easy. If not, it could be your shift lock cable pulling an "all lock, no shift" move (if you know what I mean).
