Question Regarding New Seats...

Since I probably won't be getting a motorcycle this coming spring, I might take the money I saved and get a new leather interior. My current interior (Custom Cloth) has the power drivers seat. If i install new seats that have a power component, will they hook into the existing power seat setup without any modifications? Also, if I were to put the cloth seats back in in the future, would the power seat work, or is it pretty much disabled after I take the seats out?

Re: Question Regarding New Seats...

If you can find 3rd Gen leather powe seat's,they will plug right in with no mod's.If oyu end up using some seat's from a different make and model car then you may run into problem's with the wiring. And as far as if you re-install your old seat's later, there should no issues on that, they are just like anything else that run off of elect.,you unplug it and it's done til you put power back to it.

Re: Question Regarding New Seats...

I tried a 4th gen black leather TA seats, in my 87 GTA. Nothing hooked up, so I went back to manual seats. The power ones were AL the way up...the lumbars were FULLY inflated, and I couldn't lower them or deflate the lumbars...

Re: Question Regarding New Seats...

I am recovering my 3rd gen gray leather with black leather and they plug right in. One plug and you are done. Cloth or leather has nothing to do with the operation of the seats. 4th gen seats require some modification.

4th gen seat's are wired completly different then the 3rd gen's.You can re-wire the car to except the 4th gen seat's,but I personaly don't like doing that.

Re: Question Regarding New Seats...

I was going to hack my chassis wiring, but nowhere could any body tell me, which wire was what, so I just put my cloth 4th seats in.

Re: Question Regarding New Seats...

Couldn't you just spice into the needed power from the current setup using a multimeter w/o cutting out the harness(tape off so nothing arcs)? you normally only move one item at a time on a power seat so I don't see how it would hurt or overload anything. Then if you want to switch back untape and plug and play(while taping off previously spliced harness).

Re: Question Regarding New Seats...

Either I'm missing something, or everyone is over-thinking this. On a third gen power seat, the seat track assembly has it's own wiring harness that has a two-wire connector to the body. One wire is constant power, the other is ground. The switch and the seat harness takes car of all the functions of the tracks, there's no need to try and adapt it- use the switch and harness from the fourth gen seat and hook the power/ground wires on it to the power/ground wires of the car. I have no experience with the gta style seats, I'm just talking about the regular power driver seat.

I'm not extremly familiar with power seats, but this was my point also. I was suggesting to add on the needed adapter so it could be a plug and play option.

Re: Question Regarding New Seats...

Right, power seats generally have a power and ground hookup, that's it. Unless air bladders, seat heaters, side airbags, etc are involved, of course.

Re: Question Regarding New Seats...

What are you guys talking about? The only difference between the 4th gen seats and 3rd gen seats is the connector design. I had a 4th gen Camaro power seat track on my deluxe seats before my 4th gen TA seats. I got both connectors (car side and seat side) with my Camaro track. When I got my 4th gen TA seats, the wiring harness just plugged into the connector I already had.

Your not even close...

Side bolsters are different, cloth is different, wiring is different, headrests are different, The only thing they share, is the bolt pattern to the floor. They sit lower though, but olt right in.

Like the GTA seats, The sides kinda look the same, but the headrests are TOTALLY different. The lumbar air tubes were the only thing that connected. The plugs were completely different.

Re: Question Regarding New Seats...

These are the seats Stephen had in his car. I just put them in mine yesterday. When I picked them up I was under the impression that they were full power. After I put the new carpet in I started putting the seats in and discovered that they're not power adjustable. The seat tracks are manual, the lumbar is power of course, but I don't have it hooked up. I'm probably going to hook up the power to the lumbar tomorrow since they are inflated all the way.

Here is the link to the how to hook up the power lumbar in 4th gen seats. Hope this helps.

Re: Question Regarding New Seats...

Just to be clear....

I DID NOT SELL THEM TO HIM, OR MISLEAD HIM.

I put them in my car, from the same seller, couldn't figure out the wiring after a week, so I put my old ones back in, and gave them back to the seller, then Fyrchicken bought them.

I just don't anybody thinking I mislead him on buying them!

Uhh... then you must not have had the wiring harness for the seats. My seats didn't come with the harness that runs under the center console, but once I got that, the power connector plugged right in to the one I used from the Camaro. You have to have that harness or they won't work.

Re: Question Regarding New Seats...

I'm sorry Stephen.....I didn't even think of the way that sounded.

Stephen did not mislead me at all. I didn't get them from him. I got them from a mutual friend. Now one mislead me. I just bought them as leather seats, and I saw buttons on them and figured they were power. And for the price that I got them for (dirt cheap) I don't mind them not being power at all. Hell, it's less wires I have to figure out how to hook up.

Just wanted to clear that up.

Again....sorry Stephen.

It's a GTA...GTAs came STANDARD with power seats...And yes, the wiring is still there. But the connectors were TOTALLY different.

I wasn't talking about GTA seats. I was talking about all 4th gen connectors and wiring, and that the power connector design was the only thing different between the 4th gen and 3rd gen seats. If you get 4th gen TA seats with lumbar you will need the wiring harness with the hoses to make them work, but that still has the same connector design as the 4th gen Camaro.

They were 4th gen TA seats. The lumbar hose plugged right in, but that's it.
