No Dash Lights

I have a 1986 Trans Am. Checked the 5amp fuse and I'm not getting any power to it. The person I bought it from had a aftermarket stereo in it and just kind of tossed the original back in the console without hooking it up. Heat doesn't work either. But the blower does work. Is there a relay between the light switch and dash lights that could be disconnected or burned out? A place to start looking would be a great help. Thanks in advance.

Re: No Dash Lights

For the dash lights start with the fuse box. probably just a fuse...No relay that I know of...at least not in my 86 Camaro so if the TA's are the same sounds like a fuse...also check your grounds, especially if there are open wires with the radio instal situation...and 5 amps seems low for that radio but my book is out in the garage...the dash and the radio are different fuses and I believe the dash is 20 amp

No heat...thermostat if the temps are over 220 or the Heater Core...pray that it is not the heater core because they are a pain to replace and with winter coming you don't have much of a choice...with the thermo stat becareful not to break a bolt in the intake while removing the housing...it happens a lot on these 20 plus year old cars...
