odometer broke

On the 88 Formula we just bought, the odometer and trip odometer is not working.Everything else is just fine.
Would the problem be inside the unit? Can it be fixed or easier to swap out a working one?
Thanks
vince

Re: odometer broke

you can take it all appart and see if there are any broken wires, but there is a little motor in there and it can go bad, you will have to dig into it and see, maybe its just unplugged, who knows

Re: odometer broke

A common problem with the thirdgen speedos is that the j-clips that hold in the trip meter and odometer (although I have not heard of the odometer clips breaking) have a tendency to break. I would check on those while you are looking at the speedo.

If your speedometer still works, then the problem should not be that it is simply unplugged so the issue would be with the motor or clips.

Re: odometer broke

IMO the first thing you should do is to see if the speedo sending unit in the tranny is plugged in !!

If it is plugged in that you will need to work your way back into the car...... Start by removing the speedo sending unit in the tranny to be sure the driven gear is OK on the sensor and that the Drive gear on the tranny tail shaft is still in place. If it's fine just re-install the sending unit. Then check the sensor wires to be sure they are not broken. If all that check out than deal with removing and checking the cluster.
