Door Won't Shut
Door Won't Shut
I've searched the past threads for this article and it seems no one has had this problem posted yet. This morning I went out to my car and opened the passenger side door. I went to close it and it just bounced right back open. The latch in the door isn't catching and I was wondering what I would need to do to fix this. Is there a cable inside that may have come off, has a spring broke, will I need to replace it? Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Door Won't Shut
I've had a few vehicles do this when it was really cold outside (don't know what part of country you are in) and there was some moisture in the latch that had frozen and wouldn't allow the catch to move properly. Try some lube in the latch, like WD40, and move the catch with your hand. That usually worked, but once I had to put the car in the garage with heat until it thawed. Once it was thawed, I lubed it a bit and no more issues.

I'm in Utah and we just had a really bad snow storm and you're right. It froze up because I went back outside a little later to mess around with it and the latch caught on. Thanks again.
