broken tilt steering column

When I got my 92 the tilt wheel was broken and you have to push the wheel down and to the left for the tumblers to engage and for the VATS to kick in then move it up slightly to the upper left for the starter to engage then let go so it disengages. Likewise all I have to do to shut it off is yank down and left on the wheel and it kills the ignition. I plan on going to pull-a-part to get a close matching column then bypass the VATS system ( with resistors ) but I want a wheel w/o an airbag and mine came equipped with one.

Re: broken tilt steering column

OK so I went to Pull a part today and got a titl wheel from a 94 camaro. All the 80's models were missing the columns and this one fits, but the shaft on the column looks to be a little long and it doesnt really wanna fit into the steering knuckle on the car. I wqas thinking about tolerancing it with an angle grinder but this column doesnt have the orange wire for bypassing the VATS system like the 92 column did... Any ideas? Basically im trying to see if its possible to put a 4th gen wheel on a 3rd gen car

Re: broken tilt steering column

OK I switched out the 92 tilt column with the 94 column, replaced the ignition columns and it turns out I dont even have to bypass the VATS system, Got it all done except for hooking up the neutral safety switch, and reattaching the vats wires, that and my steering wheel is 90 degrees off so I have to unbolt it again and adjust the wheel other than that the 4th gen steering column adapts well in a 3rd gen
