New Digital Dash Intalled

Just finished the install on my digital dash on my Drop Top. I Decided to go with the Digital Dash from Nordskog. I am very pleased with this product, the only problem i found with this set up is the instructions seem very generic to any installation on any car. This set up is good if you are comfortable with hacking apart your old dash and wiring up the new set. From what i have read from other posts that Dakota Digital has a similar gauge set up and you can send your cluster to them and they do it for you, but they are almost double the price plus all the shipping charges. Anyway the people at Nordskog are great from customer service to tech support, they offer a lifetime warranty and truly stand by their product.

I have seen alot of post and pictures of the dakota digital dash so here is a few pics of mine for people looking for a cheaper alternative. I dont feel its cheep due to quality. It is more because it is a more do it yourself product if you feel comfortable taking on this task.

Very nice. Are you able to dim/brighten it to your liking?

Re: New Digital Dash Intalled

it has a dimmer option but i chose not to use it all you would have to do is tap dimmer wires to origional dash light wires and when headlights are on it will dim 50% but thats it as far as dimming. you dont have total control like the stock dash

So does my Dakota Digital, but it is menu selectable how much you want to make it dim. If you do any amount of night driving, you may want to hook that up, it's unbelievable how much it reduces eye strain. Just something to think about. Those look great BTW.

How did you end up connecting the oil pressure sender? I had to leave the stock one in place because it had 3 wires vise the single wire of the digital one. I installed the sender beside the stock one by using an unused plug on the oil filter mount.

i just tapped wire for the oil psi off the new dash to the existing signal wire to the old dash. the nordskog setup used all the oem wires and sensors except the coolant temp that was only sensor i had to change. i found the pin outs for the plugs behind oem cluster in another post and cut and spliced wasnt to hard at all.

Re: New Digital Dash Intalled

I almost had one of these, the company I bought it from screwed me and my bank had to get me my money back. I wouldn't mind buying another one, but I want the blue one and I'm really not sure how that would look with the green sweeps.

Im sure if you asked they could change the color i mean its just LED's. it wouldnt be hard to do. all i know is it would be a little more expensive just because blue LED's cost more. I know they offer like 4 or 5 diff colors but the sweeps you would have to ask about, but im sure it could be done

They do offer different colors, but the sweeps only come in green.

Did you retain your SES light the way you installed your cluster?

Re: New Digital Dash Intalled

you can but my dumb *** stripped all the bulbs and forgot to put them back in, all i did was cut the decals off the origional tach and put them on the new cluster. so all i have to do it pull the cluster out and put the bulbs back in. also the high beam and turn signal indicators didnt line up perfect but i dont know if the show up or not because i forgot to put those bulbs back in as well but again not a big deal to me, worst case scenario ill go get 2 green and 1 blue led from radio shack. all the wires are at the back of the origional cluster.

Re: New Digital Dash Intalled

The plan I had come up with when i bought mine was to be be able to keep all the lights and cut up a circuit board off the back and solder the digital cluster wires to it so that it would be completely removeable just like the original cluster.

Re: New Digital Dash Intalled

That can definatly be done the printed circuit on the origional dash is easy to follow. i didnt even think of trying that. i wonder how solder would stick to the flimsy printed circuit on the origional dash

They dont make a direct one for the bird but they make a universal kit that you can lay the gauges out however you want to. that should work. or if you can get enough people interested you can call them up and maybe they will create it. when i spoke to them on the phone they said its a 90 day turnaround from the time they draw it up to the time its ready for sale. they are really big on customer service over at nordskog i would give them a call and give it a shot

Re: New Digital Dash Intalled

I still have a cyberdyne digital dash installed into my IROC. I have had this installed since 1989 and haven't had any major problems with the dash. I noticed that Nordskog Digital dashes use the same technoligies using LED lighting.. They don't have what appears to be any major problems. I did find a problem using the cyberdyne digital dash though.

I was initially instructed by the service tech's at cyberdyne once they installed the cruise control option which was an upgrade to completely remove the speedo cable from the trans sender to the back of the OEM gage cluster and just use the Cyberdyne 2 wire sender that they supplied. At the time, I wasn't aware of the consequences until about 1 year ago. The cable that runs into the speedo cluster also sends a VSS signal to the ecm to tell your car how fast you are going. Using Data-Master you car wil be going 0 mph at all times. Kinda plays tricks on your Enleanment and Deleanment in your ECM. Because your car really can't tell the ECM what it is doing.

I think Dakota Digital which cost's around $250 more uses LCD (Correct me if wrong) and has a new box that sends the VSS signal to the ecm. Anyone have any input on this. I am looking to purchase a better option than Cyberdyne 2nd generation digital products.

Dakota Digital has a sender that adapts the cable from the transmission to a two wire VSS signal at 8000 pulses per mile. For the electronic speedometers, it can use the existing VSS signal from the transmission.

Oh, I forgot - the Dakota Digital uses a vacuum tube fluorescent display, which might be another reason for the price difference...

That's true for the 90-92 cluster, 82-89 they have in stock. As for the Firebirds, I'm not sure.

These are awsome, my question is how does it deal with odometer mileage? I don't see it on the pics...

Otherwise this is definately $500 well spent. I'll be getting one of these before I'm finished.

i tapped all my wires in to the orrigional cluster plugs i did a search on here and found the pinouts for the plugs and just spliced the wires in easy....make sure you change the temp sender to the one provided or guage will be like 30 degrees off. your also gonna need a pipe reducer to go from 1/4npt to 1/8npt so the new sender will fit...thats how mine was anyway...

Re: New Digital Dash Intalled

Do these gauges have any kind of warning system one can set, like an alarm or something blinking when a certain level is reached?

I'm just thinking this scenario; I'm lending my car to my mom since hers need to go to the garage, or I'm using hers since it has a tow hitch and mine don't whatever, and then she drives it, looking at the gauges and seeing "oil pressure 3 psi" and thinking " wow 3 huh... that must be good...bet 1 is worst 2 is good, 3 is great" and continue driving.

I find it kinda dangerous, cause if you dont think about the numbers, and know what they need to be at, there really isnt any low/high indicator or a buzzer/warning light. Thoughts?

That's too bad, all that sophistication and they wouldn't let you program your engine/chassis mileage? Oh well. It gives me an excuse to display my cluster in my living room.

the only one that ive seen blink is the volt gauge when it gets low i think below 12.0 it starts to blink, but that is something you can ask the tech support, each gauge has its own program so i dont see why they couldnt set the gauge to blink at a certain value like the volt gauge does...its all in the programing...they are big on customer support over there so i bet if you throw an idea at them they would see what they can do for you

i had the buzzer issue too i just pulled the relay...it has something to do with the security...did you put all the other bulbs back in the original housing for the security or the check engine....i think that might have something to do with it because thats the only difference i can think of...i forgot to put all my bulbs back in for the seat belt light check engine blinker high beams ect

Had the same buzzer issue with my Dakota Digital panel. It does have something to do with the indicator lights apparently. For me it was the seat belt chime and I unplugged the connector at the driver side seat belt reel on the door sill.

C-titan I was just reading through this and I think you got my cluster while I got yours. I have a post on here somewhere about it. I almost had them completly installed before I realized. Nordskog sent mine to pennsylvania and sent me some blue ones here in North Carolina. Anyway thanks for the bulb test. Small world.

Re: New Digital Dash Intalled

so i finally got back around to installing these new blue gauges after the shipping mix up... they look crazy as hell n also got the beeping to go away... but my problem now is i cant get the speedo to calibrate... im getting the 12800 number which according to nordskog means my speed sensor doesnt kick out a number in between 3000-30000... so im mad confused now... haha
