Re: hatch release button
on your car the button mounts on the console between the PW switches. Run a 12v line through the switch to the terminal on the popper, and a ground wire from the popper housing to the car body. I just brought home an 88 IROC parts car and have have the wiring harness and switch to sell, I can check tomorrow.

Re: hatch release button
I just did this last week. My car never had a hatch release button, but it had a power pull down...go figure
. I used a hatch release button from a 4th gen (the little yellow square one). It mounted perfectly on the bottom of the lower dash cover on the driver side. I picked it up at a junkyard along with a stock 3rd gen popper button. I didn't want to cut a hole in my dash or console for the 3rd gen button, and I didn't want it visible either. I'll get picks tomorrow.
To hook up the button tie one of the wires from the button to 12V+, hook the other wire from the button to the popper solenoid on the hatch release.

Re: hatch release button
I feel there's a couple of issues with the button placement between the window switches...
This solution works fine when done as Chevy designed it first time around - so that it grounds through the solenoid and the gear selector. This means that you can only pop the hatch with the gear selector in park or neutral.
The reason i say this is i had a car set up as described in a previous post - just a simple circuit that enables hatch release. Now this is fine, while stationary. Tho, while driving and actually using the gear selector, you run the risk of accidentally popping the hatch while going down the highway - now that is not quite as much fun.
Of course, this won't kill you, but driving with the hatch open is for sure not a good idea(if your struts are fresh, it'll open going over the first bump in the road, mine did).
just my two cents
