interior plastics

I bought a 1988 Camaro for 600 dollars quite a steal everything is in good shape except for the dashboard but i am noticing a pattern there. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to paint the interior plastics. I have red and i want to change the car to black interior. If not i will just sell my interior and buy black.

Re: interior plastics

There are several interior "paints" or "dyes" on the market. My suggestion is to go to an autobody supply shop and buy what they suggest. Dont go the cheapo route or everytime you touch it, it will just scratch or flake off. It is possible to do with good results as long as you use good products and prep them like the directions say. I did this on several panels in my '71 Firebird and they look great, unfortunately for you it was over a year ago and I cant remember the product I used...

Re: interior plastics

Im in the process of changing my gray panels to black. Im using sem products. Your lucky I got all of the stuff here with me now so heres the list.

I spoke to a tech from SEM.

It also depends if your panels are dirty. Use a liquid soap like dish or car wash and wash the panels.

1st Sem Soap 39362
2nd Plastic/Leather Prep
3rd I used Bulldog Adhesion Promoter
4th Color Black Landau

Above 60 degrees at least and man the results are amazing. They look like factory. Im almost done with my bird. New capeting, Redid the Headliner (t-tops) and dk gray seats out of a 30th annv camaro and Im very happy how its coming out. Remember its in the prep you do before the paint hits the plastic and for deep nicks use a 400grits to smooth it out. Hope this helps because it help me plenty. Good Luck

Do you have any pics? I am considering changing my medium dark gray to black and I'm curious on the final product.

By the way, how many cans can I expect to use for the interior plastics?

So how is the black landau as far as gloss factor matching to the GM original? It's not really glossy is it? Or really dull for that matter?

Re: interior plastics
