i took my tach out too see why it wasnt working and it turns out it was broke, so i put it back in just so i wouldnt have a big empty space in my gauge cluster, and my gas gauge wont move from full, or it will jump to half full etc, bottom line is its not telling me how much gas i have in my car and that can be a problem....please if anyone know how to fix this i would be very grateful.

Idk much about 84's.. but i know my '86 had the same problem, i went to my local junk yard and got another gauge and put it in and it worked fine, now on my 92 fuel gauge doesn't work still... and to top it off my trip-ometer just stoped working.. but my 92 needs a new fuel sending unit..
thanks i guess ill have to get a new gauge

My gas gauge started doing the same thing about a year ago. I was cruising in the boondocks at 11:30pm thinking I had half a tank. It dropped down to empty when the engine sputtered out...
Now I have a really good habit of resetting my trip meter every time I fill up. I refill every 200 miles and put in about 13 gallons every time.
I'm not going to worry about it until I get a new cluster because most of my gauges are crap anyways.
And Stoners, you are correct. Pulling one of the tanks on one of these cars will make you cuss your very existence.

yea, to pull the tank on these, you have to take apart the whole rear end. but like on my car, if its not rusted, and its all nice, it only takes two and a half hours. hehe. tear apart and rebuild.
